DMB#2Sets in 2015

what are your thoughts on 2 sets in 2015, same format as this year?

I Fucking LOVE the idea ------ Acoustic was absolutely crushed by the band this year, lots of fun and energy - the electric was much of the same. I like the change in the selection of encore songs, provided in smlam closes it is part of a three song medley versus only two - Not to mention the return of GGT!!!!

    Re: DMB#2Sets in 2015

No chance of a return in 2015. Was a 1 time gimmick to get 2014 ticket sales up after poor sales in 2013. The acoustic set was a great idea in theory and did bring back some songs that were nice, but the lack of creativity and variety made it stale very quickly.

Would I love to see an acoustic tour by itself in the fall or a winter? Absolutely - but 2-sets is done and I'm quite glad.

If we can get a Watchtower acoustic opener and the fist set includes R&R, Loving Wings AND Typical Situation, then I'll take the DMB#2Sets.

I just want tour rarities that return to be played with A LOT more consistency and most of the "every night" mainstays of the last 4-6 years to scale back significantly or take a break. 2 sets, 1 set...just give me great ambitious shows with setlists that keep me on my toes with surprises and structure.

but that's probably too much to ask for.

Personally, I liked the 2 sets. I like all of their stuff but I'd probably pick an acoustic set over an electric set, just personal preference. Maybe, Dave and Tim could come out for a few songs for each show and play some segues and songs that don't get played often like "Jimi Thing" segued into "What Will Become of Me." They could change when just those two play during the set to keep fans excited and kind of compromise between acoustic and electric.

Made it stale for who? Not the people at the shows.

I love that people were seeing an acoustic full band performance for the first time in their lives, but are complaining because they played the same songs they played in other towns.

    I'll never understand people.

A lot of people on here go to multiple shows, and travel. Seeing Sugar Man, TMTT, So Damn Lucky played the exact same way 4 or 5 times got old really fast.

opening with take me to tomorrow and playing sugarman everywhere was a drag. why not play songs like typical, dreaming tree, YNK, etc. more often so when they break it out it doesn't sound like shit?

We know that a lot of Ants attend several shows each tour, but what percentage of each shows attendees does that make up? We bitch about the lack of creativity in the sets but what about those that only hit up one or two shows a tour in their home town? Not really old and stale to them is it?

Exactly. They don't care. So mix up the acoustic/electric songs between sets and spots for people who see multiple shows at multiple venues.
It's a higher percentage of Ants and WH in the crowd than you think.

I'd guess 5-10% ants. WH frequent users (not just ticket purchasers) might be another 10%. Anyone ever seen or extrapolated stats on that?

So let's say we go high on this for big venues, SPAC, Gorge, Camden, Deer Creek, Hartford, Northerly Island, 4 shows in FL, etc...and it's 35-40% combined. That is way higher than what should be needed to consider mixing up what had been played acoustic. I am not saying busting out songs all the time, I'm saying mix up what was played acoustic/electric.

    Re: DMB#2Sets in 2015

The one show I went to blew me away, but I only went to one show. I did alot of Setlist watching this year and can see how people who attend multiple shows, or even those that don't like SMLAM or Watchtower could get bored/disappointed...there was a fair amount of repetative songs all in all, but I loved N3 at the Gorge, and wouldn't care less what Dave chooses to play. I liked the acoustic aspect of the show, thought it was much more on-point compared to Mansfield last year, so I think it depends.

Would I like to see the 2sets reappear? Hell yes. Would I like it even more with a new CD tour? I think that would be the only way to see him play next year. Trying to convince my wife to spend the money would be rough, plus we'd need to go to a different venue outside of MA like CT or ME even.

tl;dr - I liked the idea. I think it could be all one set with acoustic mixed in without having 2 seperate sets though, but I really liked it. If I went to more than one show, I don't think my answer would change either.

(Christmas and birthdays are bound to happen if any of you would like to make more than one show happen by the way )

Realistically it's probably around 25% for those venues. Either way, there wasn't enough variety between the 2 sets, and that is where all the frustration is coming from. The Ladies had a lot to do with that too, but no need to talk about that.

Like someone just said the casual fan is going to be entertained either way. If DMb wants to lose all the fans who travel all over to see this band then they should keep constructing sets like they are .

The acoustic sets were a nice gimmick, but overall felt very forgettable. And Sugar Man should never be played again. That may have been the worst song the entire weekend at Gorge. Absolute crowd killer that no one knows.

Agree it was a crowd killer, but I dig Dave doing it. It is a good song and Rodriguez was a great songwriter. It's personal to Dave.

I think people would feel differently about it if they changed the energy of it a bit and got more creative with the jam outro.
