truth be told, i have a few really close friends who missed out on tickets, so I'm giving away a few bottles to them, giving one to my sister in Colorado per tradition, and giving one away to my local beer store manager for always lookin out for me. so in the end I will end up with probably 4 bottles to myself. the bourbon vanilla, however, is all mine

I read that article too - Jim Koch was acting pretty douchey. He knocks all of the hop bombs as if there is zero skill involved in brewing them.

I concur with a lot of the BA comments - if Jim Koch/Boston Beer actually brewed a decent IPA they might have room to talk.

Plus Sam Adams brews plenty of outrageous/gimmicky beers already - things like Utopias, Triple Bock, etc. He should shut up.

I will say this, I think Palate Wrecker is overboard in the hop bomb category. But a beer like Hoptimum is fucking bliss

Had a very IPA centered weekend... picked up what my beer guy told me is the last 6 pack of Sucks from their SoCal distributor ;-) It's actually drinking pretty nicely still, aroma has fallen off but still a fantastic beer.

Also picked up some Sculpin in cans (freaking rocks - freshly canned batch just exploding with hoppy goodness) and a couple bombers of Hop Diggity DIPA from Mother Earth Brew Co. - excited to give them a shot. My first offering from them.

Went to a friends bday party and a guy there had homebrewed a Jalapeno Lime IPA - pretty interesting combo but one was enough for me, haha. Too much Jalapeno, it pretty much masked everything else. I still haven't tried a chili beer that I've liked.

On top of that I kegged my homebrewed Rye IPA and it's tasting great thus far, can't wait for it to get carbed up!

So my buddy found two four-packs of Wake n Bake and bought me one. I am very happy. Also have a four of Double Trouble to enjoy soon as well and still have a four of Daisy Cutter hanging around.

The whole menu looked great. Wanted the devil dancer but I am a picky water and I hate asking to take everything off a sandwich.

Did have a panther cub. Maple syrup barrel aged vanilla porter. Super boozy. Could be great w age.

And a ba frangelic stout. Now that was delicious. I could substitute it for my morning coffee. It was really tasty.

    Well...

I kind of agree with him. Just throwing money at a beer isn't making great beer. A lot of these beers are really just throw as much hops at something and see if it sticks. Some are more balanced and complex. Some are just lets add MORE HOPS! Which I don't appreciate as much as a well thought out complex IPA.

But, it comes down to two things. Consumers and (like Koch Said) Making something that people enjoy drinking. One cannot deny that people will buy them and then enjoy them. So, Koch is being hypocritical in that sense.

I've had two very different experiences with tap Doom, so it seems a bit inconsistent.

    1. Very much Double Trouble, however a touch of smooth sweetness from the barrel.
    2. SUPER booze and barely reminiscent of DT.

Both experiences were solid on their own, so I look forward to cracking a bottle!

There was something about Double Trouble that left me wanting more. I still have three bottles left. I did like it, but I was going in expecting to be floored.

While it has a lot of hops. It's a strong malt beer too. So that may have something to do with it. Ever had 90 minute? Similar opinion?

that's a good comparison I think. I am not blown away by either DT or 90, which is why i generally pass on both whenever I have the chance.

I agree that anyone can add more hops - there are a ton of shitty hoppy IPAs out there.

I guess my beef is that Jim Koch specifically calls out Heady Topper as being in that category. Boston Beer Co. couldn't brew a beer that good if their life depended on it; never have, never will.

Nice man, I hope you guys enjoy the same growth! I need to make it down to Intergalactic soon.

I love it when breweries have homebrew roots. Ballast Point and The Bruery come to mind. In fact Patrick Rue used to be a member of my homebrew club before he went bigtime. A couple of his shift brewers are still members and come to the meetings and of course think they are homebrewing gods, haha

Just got back from a week in Mexico. I don't are what anyone says you can easily drink a shit ton more at sea level than altitude, especially Mexican adjunct lagers weighing in at like 4.2%.

I have no desire to have one of those in a long, long time. I ha enough for a year in the last week.

I need to get caught up on this thread and the DLD domination.

Tobin you goin to this? http://beeradvocate.com/community/th...y-may-4.86054/

Yeah that's pretty awesome - much like they did with SSR (11th Anny) they have to bring it back full time!

Stone has always been a local favorite of mine and obviously one of the better in the country, but man, there is all kinds of winning over there the past 6-8 months or so!

Hey this is news to me! Hell yes! However, Greg Koch would not be pleased.

Stone has always been a local favorite of mine and obviously one of the better in the country, but man, there is all kinds of winning over there the past 6-8 months or so!

    Re: Favorite beer of choice?

So my wife's uncle brought me back a Latitude 33 shirt from San Diego. Every time I wear it people come up and talk to me about how awesome their beer is. As far as I know they don't even bottle? Can some of you SD-area people tell me a little more about this brewery?

I've never even heard of them - sounds like I'll have to check them out!
