it's a beautiful venue, if you have a seat inside it's unparalleled sound and atmosphere. the band loves it, usually gets very good shows, and one of the only venues that you can see a show from the balcony.

I asked the same question and then decided to make the trek solo from Chicago last year. To say the park is beautiful is an understatement. It is just a peaceful serene place that you never want to leave. When I get back there I will literally "get lost" in the woods just so I can stay the night and sleep under he stars. And as for the venue...the balcony was something in and of itself. The crowd is amazing, and sound is incredible, the balcony bounces and sways with the beat of the dancing. It was an incredible time! Definitely worth the trip and should be added to everyone's "Must See" venues list.

The balcony adds to the fan atmosphere in a big way. It provides an extra boost in noise and the band feeds on it. The venue is essentially in the middle of a huge park with a beautiful scenery surrounding it.

Just an incredible venue.

The energy in the pavilion is amazing. Beautiful setting, sound and atmosphere. The band loves the place. SPAC is a special place for sure.

First of all, the location. Unparalleled beauty in the middle of the state park. Second, the balcony makes it so unique. Third, it's really so tiny that there's not a bad seat in the place. The sound is amazing and at some points you just have to stop and listen to the band and the crowd together. The band feeds off of the crowd energy.

Double encores never hurt.

Anyone who's never been should really come see for themselves what it's like.

The lawn at SPAC was not made for 20,000 people to stand asses to elbows and see inside. It was made for people to sit and watch shows. Like Ballets and orchestras, not DMB or Dead.

Only a moron would think "cognitive" is a big word. I'm not surprised.

That's every venue, anywhere, ever. NONE of them are as great as advertised, mainly because people attach emotion to them. They also care about a place they saw music at because it's part of the memory.

Every single "destination venue" I've been to is preeeetttyyyy whatever. Gorge was fine, Alpine was fine. I don't much care for New York, filled with assholes who enjoy reminding you every eight seconds that they're from New York, so I'd rather not go.

IT's SPAC!!! The sound is amazing! The downtown area nearby is nice and well kept (but I'm from here, so, I get to go alllllll the time) , it's an experience unto itself. The tailgating is some of the best of any of the venues regularly visited by the band ( I'd know because I live in NY and get to be at both nights of SPAC every year!!! Gorge of the East Coast!!!!! ). Just don't be a knucklehead. The venue itself is set in a beautiful, sprawling state park (that I can have a picnic in whenever I damn well please, because I'm from here!!!) . It even has a nice creek running through it. Come in from Route 9 and drive down the Avenue Of The Pines (in fact, I drove down it yesterday, just because I was in the area!) . That's awesome. Gigantic lawn for you and 20,000 of your closest lawn creatures (which are generally NOT from NY. But I am). Ed, if I know my history well enough, the lawn wasn't even part of the original design of SPAC; which, yes, was designed for Orchestras and Ballets (those are here in the summer too. Us people from NY like going to those as well ) and not bro's and skanks wrecked off Natty.

Once you get inside with us civilized people (most from NY) , it's a great place to be. Consistently great setlists, there's a balcony (also with people from NY. Like me.) , which is pretty unique and the band has been quoted stating how much they like the place. When you want to be somewhere (like NY, where I'm from) , you just perform better.

Cool thing about spac is you can make a hell of a weekend out of it. For not being a big city there's a lot you can do there when you're not at the show- plenty of restaurants, bars, the park, nearby hiking, etc... If you can make it out after the show there's some pretty cool bars in downtown Saratoga. For me and my friends it's become a tradition for us to get together once a year since we've graduated college. I recommend finding a place to stay right in Saratoga for these reasons.

As far as the show goes, I think part of it is the venue itself being unique, and part of it is the fact that it's become a place for fans from all over to travel to. So in general, you're just going to get more fans who are really into the show and combine that with the way the band feeds off of it- you get high energy shows with great set lists. Just how I feel about it from my personal experiences but I guess everyone's different

The area is lovely, don't get me wrong, but unparalleled? Not really.


The sound isn't zomgamazeballs. It's basically the same as an indoor venue, because it basically is an indoor venue.


It's a neat place, filled with rude people, that I would be quite happy never to return to.

Back in college, some random chick showed up at a party at our house. I was drinking a Red Bull . She seriously tried to get me to give her $5 to mix it with some of her Crystal Palace she brought. After confirming she wasn't trying to be funny, she got kicked the hell out.
