Fantastic finish. These are the results that make the difference between mid-table and champion teams!

Transferring window closing... Chelsea making some nice additions at the deadline. Thought maybe United would add one more central defender. Jose going to support Smalling when he gets back? Or is Bllnd going to pair up with Baily for the long term? The latter seems to be working pretty well.

While very excited for the matches, I find it very interesting that the schedules makers couldn't have put the Manchester Derby and Old Firm at least at different start times if on the same day. What a shame to have the return of the Old Firm and first match up of new Manchester managers but for viewers to have pick which one to watch.

That would be a no for the Potters for their first win.

While I agree, it was something that was bought up between some of my buddies when trying to figure why Landon decided to come back now. With a 1 1/2 contract with LA, the timing leads him right up to the end of the WC qualifying for 2018, so it was a very interesting perceptive brought up in conversation.

So was it a case of a player retiring due more to burnout and tried of battling with coaches/systems, then being done with the game as an athlete? Landon and Klinnsman do not get along, the UMNT needs to get younger and give those players time between now and 2018 WC to gain more experience so unless Landon is looking at a mentor roll, I think this is a case of a guy that retired when he wasn't ready, just burnt out and frustrated.

How about now, just lost to Hull in the EFL Cup at home no less. Mark Hughes gets a vote of confidence from the chairman this week but another loss will only make the natives more restless.

    Congrats Craig.

That said, questions need to be raised about Jose and if his tactics are still relevant. United's season is basically over with regards to winning the title. They already have Arsenal goals of just finishing top 4, which right now even seems a stretch....

You can't have that squad and not beat Stoke at home....

A good second half from us today and a much needed confidence boost. A great performance by our third choice keeper playing only his 2nd only Premier League game. I'll take that today.

How do MLS Academy teams work? I was looking at the ATL United page and saw they have a U-12 team. Do they recruit players for these teams or do they try out? It's a long way off and who knows if my son would ever care enough/be good enough to play on teams like this but it piqued my interest to find out more about it.

Kind of a weak call on that penalty kick for Messi, but good lord is he fun to watch.

Watching more la liga than premiere league lately and although I do like it, I still prefer the epl. Granada is worse than the past few years...sitting in 20th...plenty of time to attempt to not get relegated.

Debating weather I should just go to a cheap game this year or splash out 100€ on going when Barcelona is in town. I've cheaped out and missed messi 3 times and this could be one of my last realistic chances. Worth it or not?

Do it. If Messi is someone you've always wanted to see, do it. Gerrard was always a player I wanted to watch. I went to an England international match and it was good, I had fun and it was a great experience. But nothing compared to watching Gerrard a couple days later. Even though it was just a charity match, it was worth every penny! Money comes and goes, the chance to see a legend like Messi comes around once in a lifetime.

Ha. Just got back from London. Had amazing seats to see 4-0 against Jose Mourinho and the Mancs. Just 1 section over from the Manc fans. I can't promise I didn't send any immature hand gestures their way. Best sporting experience of my life. Hands down.

    Glad you had fun

United are awful and I truly believe that Jose is no longer an effective manager. His tactics are clearly not working anymore and I would not be surprised if his legacy starts to be damaged.

MLS Playoffs have my attention right now however! Hope the Red Bulls can finally get over the ECF hump and win us a title!

Can't wait for the Man U vs. City match up. Really wish there was a way for both teams to lose. We're so close to another Mourinho melt and now that Pep is being exposed in England, I just want both trends to continue

Really just want the outcome to produce good banter, since I'm a neutral epl fan

*in my best 3rd grade school yard voice*

Oh yeah, well at least United is still in the EFL Cup.

Glad you had fun Chad. Chelsea was on point and United were lost from the get go. The team seemed overcome in the moment and Jose couldn't adjust tactics to find a way through. That match could be a springboard for both clubs as the season progresses. One to build off of, the other to learn from.

Yeah, this is the footy thread, welcome, welcome. I think depending on what team you root for in the Prem, this season could be interesting, frustrating, perplexing, or a combination of all 3.

Craig (Stoke City FC) started this thread up years ago with an intent on English and Champions League football. But since we don't have any other soccer thread, you'll get the occasional MLS and international topics discussed. Welcome. Come on Chelsea!

It's still early days in the Premier League but if it stays bunched up like it is with 5 or more teams in the hunt for the title, it will certainly make for an incredible season to watch.

Good advice man, I think I'll try to pick up a ticket whatever the cost when Barcelona comes to town!

Any suggestions for some quality YouTube highlights...goals, assists, saves, comebacks, penalties...?

We land at Heathrow at 7:20am on March 18 for the D&T shows. What game should we go to on March 18?

Looks like (to me) the best game in London that weekend will be Tottenham against Southampton.

If you think you make it to Manchester in time for kickoff, City play Liverpool. Probably the game of the weekend.
