Watch the buttons on shirts from Kohl's. Almost everyone I've ever picked up there has had a button fall off. Mostly the collar buttons.

shirt and shoes matter worse. what if you buy only cheap shirts and expensive ties, but your company says you don't always have to wear ties? then you're stuck with a cheap shirt.

Not to mention, they last. I've had my business shirts since last December, and they still look great. Had I gotten them from Steve and Barry's or something like that, I'd've had to replace them six months ago.

the company i interned at required shirt and tie. problem was, almost none of us at the company met with clients. so there was no real point in us wearing shirt and tie.

The IT people at my company are allowed to dress however they want (within reason) because they're always on the floor hooking up computers and stuff like that.

Agreed. I have two pairs of pants and some shirts that I spent a decent amount of money on at Banana Republic 3 years ago (more than I would normally spend). They still look brand new.

Yeah - usually the more cheap something is the shorter life it will have.

The only place that I've found this to NOT be true is Hollister....the stuff is still expensive - but falls apart - almost ALWAYS! I loathe hollister for this reason alone...it's like the generic A&F.....I boycott it!

Khakis and a polo shirt should be fine for IT, IMO. But here I am, in a tie.

That sucks. There is no reason for that. There is no reason for a tie in general unless you are in contact with customers or in management, IMO.

Probably a big reason why I buy cheap ass clothes too. No reason to buy something nice if I am going to be on the floor running Ethernet cable and whatnot.

The IT guys at the hospital wear jeans and a polo - but they are crawling around on hospital floors - i wouldn't want to wear nice stuff to do that in either..... - i think the supervisors have to wear kaks though.

These are the dress shirts I usually go with. The fitted cut works well for me, but the non-fitted shits are nice as well.

Whatever store sells the shirts that are the easiest to rip the buttons off. Go for those places.
