Off the top of my head:
Satellite
PFWYG
R&R
LLD
SMTS
Crash
Let You Down
Proudest Monkey
Stay
Halloween
Pig

And more, I don't know these were the first few that came to me. And again, I didn't say "better than", I said "competes with".

Yea there are great individual lines littered throughout the song...the bridge is great lyrically. I mean hey if you have a problem with the stella line, that is just going to be personal taste, but the vocal style of the song was basically half scat, half not, I expected that to be repeated a lot.

the scatting oohs and ahhs, repetitive "when you gonna put me in a song" completely overrides the few "real" lyrics when I hear the song....that's all that stays with me when I hear the song. I wish they had either just made the song all scatting jiberish, or really finished the song and told a complete story.

Maybe so, but to me, that gets completely lost in the scat.
I really just hear it as a fun cajun song that they wanted to fit on the album...but it just feels like they wanted it to be fun and not really a lyric carrier.

I love it. I love the tempo change half-way through the song, its so unexpected and its just great.

Also, I think Stella symbolizes Katrina itself. Its probably been mentioned, but when he says "Stella says Daddy when are you gonna put me in a song", im pretty sure he means Katrina and its victims have been overdue for a song about them.

Enough with the comparisons....Alligator Pie is one of the best tracks on Big Whiskey. Squirm is up there, too. It's too early to compare them to other great songs over the years, though. Give it time and the people who don't dig this album will come around.

Not sure what this even refers to, but you are one WEIRD person. For sure. Who cares what I think? Besides you, I mean?

Clearly the Ants is not ready for it comment applied directly to you and no one else, so please, overreact some more.

While the song isn't really bad, it's not great either. This song isn't close to the same level as the Big 3. If you want to talk about it competeing or beating most songs from ED or SU, then I would agree. If any BWGK song had a chance at beating a Big 3 song, it would be LITHOG or Squirm. I also think Spaceman would have more of a chance than Alligator Pie.

Ok dont even put shame on this song by saying you would agree that this competes with everything on SU and ED. This song is great. The music is that good.

and people are ridiculous. I understand the hate for scatting like that of Cornbread because its just unnecessary but it fits this song perfectly. People have to be so critical about every single line and cant ever just enjoy the damn song. Its going to be the hoedown song that the band tried to make Grace be for a little while but the jam just didnt fit the tone, to happy for a sad song but this is going to kick ass live.

seriously alligator pie = bayou pt. 2 = vomit (until live)

every song on the album + bonus disc gets two thumbs besides gator pie and #27. #27 is good, just NOT great.
