Album is starting to grow on me...

Although on some of the songs, I'm a little underwhelmed by the lyrics. Musically it's great. Still no BTCS mind you

Very good album, and while it has been received positively by the majority, there are still plenty of negative ants who won't like it unless it's UTTAD.
As someone newer to the boards, can somebody give me a general idea of what the ants boards were like when Stand Up came out? The volume of negative comments probably made the boards explode.

I thought it was pretty danm amazing on my first listen. Last Stop was the only thing really weird to my ears at the time, but it slowly became a really awesome song. Man I haven't heard last stop at a show in a while. Probably won't for another couple years now that there is Squirm and Time Bomb out there, danm it, Last Stop is way better.

At the same time, there are plenty of deluded ants who think that because the album is pretty good ,it's as good or almost as good as the Big 3, which is also kind of ridiculous IMO.

Just to back up Crash, (as if it needed it, but probably not), Grux is good, but c'mon- Two Step, #41, LIOG, Cry Freedom, PM, danm it, I should have just named the whole track listing, oh wait, "Crash" is Crash. LLLw.

There are also plenty of non-deluded ants who think the album is that way as well. I don't think it is as good as the first 3 albums, but I think it is closer than some people give it credit for. I also really view this album as more of a re-birth for the band, and I honestly think if they continue in this direction, and give coffin the reigns next album, it'll turn out even better.

So I am a non-deluded ant that thinks this album isn't as good as the first three, but it is just a tier below.

It's funny you say that. A good friend of mine whose dad is definitely a pretty big fan, looked at Crash's tracklisting, and was bewildered. Obviously so many of those songs are concert staples everyone knows including him. And to see them all in one place on one album, all he could say was "shit it looks like a greatest hits album for dmb." I think that is a great way of showing how good the collection of songs on Crash is.

Yes that is your opinion... *proceeds to be delusional, listen, and enjoy*

It's actually kind of refreshing to disagree with you. However if you are referring to the big 3 as what i consider the big 3 (RTT, UTTAD, and Crash), then i do agree with you.

I'm thinking that this band's first 3 albums were such masterpiece. I'll take a lot for them to come up with something like them. But the ingredients are known = Dave's acoustic prominent, Tim doing the fills, Boyd presence more noticeable, lots of sax, Carter's tasteful playing and more thoughtful lyrics from Dave. I do think that they heading in the right direction again with BW.

of those ideas listed, lets give each one a rating of 1-10 to see if they are headed in that direction...cuz i dont think they are..itd be nice, but its a new DMB

Dave's acoustic- 4/10..except for Spaceman, You and Me and MBB, his guitar is not prominent

Tim doing fills- 0/10...Tim dominates the album (im not saying its a bad thing)

Boyd- 3/10...not too noticeable at all

lots of sax- 6/10..i like whats there, but i'd like more..sax and guitar (and violin even) can go back and forth like in Write A Song more..not enough sax imo on the album, but i like whats there

Carter- 10/10..without doubt, his best album since BTCS

lyrics- 7/10 i personally think the lyrics on Shake Me and You and Me are embarrassingly bad (you and me/we could do anything/baby) but the lyrics in a lot of the other songs- Squirm, Time Bomb, MBB- bring the rating up a lot..

while this album is a million times better than ED or SU, its not at all moving in the direction you are describing

this is a different direction they have been going in for quite some time.. Dave obviously is not interested in playing as much acoustic anymore.. these lyrics are plenty thoughtful for me.. Carter's drumming was plenty tasteful on this record..

hahaha - I don't think all fans who think that are delusional. You certainly aren't. I am referring to the general DMB ballwasher patrol who think "Stand Up is better than 99% of the music that's out there."

I have no idea why I am making this argument since it will fall on deaf ears.

But those songs have had 14+ years to become the legendary songs that hey are. None of the albums started out with a better buzz or fan reaction then Big Whiskey. They were all about the same.

Who the hell knows what you will be saying about this album and the songs ..1..5.. or 10 years from now.
