Coming Out

Both an inspiring thread and a sad one. Inspiring to see someone getting the strength to do this. Sad because this still has to be thought as an "issue.'' Change takes time, and I mean that both on the micro and macro scale in this case.

Really, congrats on having a great amount of strength. I wish you the best and hope your parents accept you for you!

Good for you OP. You can't control what other people will think, even your parents. It's obviously an extremely hard thing to do, but it'll be worth it.

Ill tackle this in my life with my humor...I've always been the funny guy, so im hoping the 10,000 gay jokes I know will help ease the tension if it exists. Maybe at a family dinner i'll throw a fit if they don't have hot dogs or something

I remember being in high school and having a huge crush on Neve Campbell and had her pictures all over my notebooks and stuff.

If this has been weighing on you since you were 8 then you will feel a great sense of relief getting this out. Just go in knowing that their reaction may be less than ideal (hope it is t, but it may). Best of luck man!

My Sister coming out was probably one of the hardest and bravest things she has done. She called my Mom up in tears because she had no idea how she would react. Both of my parents couldn't be anymore happier and proud of her when she came out. My Mom apparently had a feeling for a while. You could see the weight lifted off her shoulders and how happy she is. Do it when you feel ready. Don't feel pressured.

As a parent, I would not be bothered in the least if my son or daughter were gay - I would love them just as much as I do now.

I imagine when they're older it would be different, but I can understand how some parents would worry now/in the past with how anti-gay many in the U.S. were, we have come a LONG way.

Ive lost three of my grandparents in the last year, one of which I found dead on a "surprise" visit...the point being I was very close with my grandparents, and they all died not knowing
