Re: **The Official Vinyl Collectors Thread**

it's a pretty spiffy package if you like stuff like that. the vinyl does look real nice, especially. at that price i'd say it's more than worth it.

I am not one who gets into the digital vs analog thing anymore. It just isn't worth stressing over. I certainly support AAA releases as I do find them superior, however being the analog messiah and going off on every thread about digital vs analog just isn''t worth it. Everyone is into what they are into for whatever reasons they are into them. I am very happy when a release is AAA with quality people working on the project, I also have heard decent digitally sourced vinyl. Most MOV titles are digitally sourced but most sound great. Blind Melon's MOV release comes to mind as a good sounding digitally sourced vinyl release. I have no idea what my point was other than to say both digitally sourced and AAA releases can sound great or horrid, just depends on the release. I very much prefer a AAA release for various reasons, but I will give a digitally sourced record a real chance also.

I can't imagine they'd have a separate master for the vinyl that sounds worse than the CD master and keep it; I'd have to assume it's a pressing issue. What exactly sounds bad about - that might help to understand where it went wrong if the CD sounds good.

I have their album "Commit this to Memory" and it isn't the worst sounding record I own, all things considered regarding the genre and era in which I bought it. Picked it up after taking my little sister to one of their shows about 10 years ago. They're a pretty cool band IMO

Same. Plus I don't own many 45 rpm LPs; so I figured with such a low price for a deluxe edition, it couldn't hurt

Received the Paper Wheels deluxe boxset today. Holy shit the packaging in this thing is insane!

The sound quality is great, with it being 45RPM, and while I still prefer Phish to Trey solo this is a pretty solid album overall.

Got the latest TMR Vault release in the mail yesterday.

They really stepped up the packaging on that thing. It's in a legit boxset and seems real sturdy. I really dig it. Excited to listen to the LPs too.

Gonna spend the afternoon listening to my new records (might go to the record store this AM too) and building my first model kit. Pretty excited about it.

100% this for me. I care less for if it is digital than if it sounds digital. I think the more an album is messed with in ProTools, the more digital it sounds. But I have several great, analog sounding albums that are digital.

For anybody that hasn't preordered yet, popmarket has Crash on preorder (apparently the splatter version) for $27 and free shipping. If you use the code SORRY20, you get an additional 20% off for a grand total of $21.

Can someone comment on the different presses of Foo Fighters - The Colour and Shape of Capital Records vs Roswell Records? There is a fairly substantial price difference.

Are you looking at this? https://www.discogs.com/Foo-Fighters...elease/1582643

That's a first pressing which explains the high price to me.

I have this one from Roswell:
    https://www.discogs.com/Foo-Fighters...elease/3250272

This is cut by Chris Bellman at BG from hi res files (I don't know if AAA exists on this one - I wouldn't spend $80 chancing it for the Capitol OP from 1997 when it was most likely mastered for CD) but I can tell you it sounds fantastic for 20. Gil Norton produced and CB cut works for me and my 90's rock obsession.

Does anyone know anything official about the NIN/Bowie vinyl release from their 95 tour? Im assuming its another "taped from the FM radio transmission" pressings, but Im hoping otherwise. Ive heard the tracks and was hoping it would be worth having them on vinyl. Great set list too!

Anybody have insight into what a good pressing on Jeff Buckley's Grace is?

I saw there is a 45 RPM cut by BG... so, yeah, I know I probably can't do any better than that. Shit is $55 though... any other high quality option that is maybe $20-30 less?

I think the Sony Legacy 180g edition is the next best option, mastered and cut by Kevin Gray at Cohearant and pressed at RTI.

While the 2LP 45rpm ORG edition is expensive, it truly has no equal. They also did an SACD release which is only $29.99 and also absolutely stunning.

I have a question for all you high fidelity experts (Doby). I recently moved across the country and will be without my tower speaks for the foreseeable future. I'm considering purchasing additional speakers, but want to kill two birds with one stone if possible, i.e. something I can purchase now that will do the job and will later pair well with my two towers. I'm consider some book shelf speakers. I'm looking at the Polk Audio RTI A1 shelf speakers. Really trying not to spend more than $250.

Would this be a good purchase???

To add, given the running times you have to wonder would a 2LP 33rpm allowed for more go for broke sonics given the running times per side? Or maybe even a 4LP 45rpm????

I have the SACD, so I don't have to ponder those questions.
