Bruce Springsteen Appreciation Thread

Bruce Springsteen is the man. I fucking love this man. Couldn't find a thread about him, and if there is already one he deserves two. Anyone who doesn't like him isn't trying.

Have you picked his latest release? It's called The Promise and contains unreleased recordings from the Darkness of the Edge of Town recordings. I bought the two-disk cd. Good stuff, I recommend it.

Yeah man, The Promise is awesome. I was really hoping they would tour behind it, but I doubt they will. I just really want the E Street Band to tour again soon.

Yessir. My favorite tunes would have to be: The River (song), Something in the Night, Lost in the Flood, The Angel, and Bobby Jean.

Bruce was my favorite before I ever started listening to DMB. He will always hold a special place for me musically speaking. He was my childhood put to words, a soundtrack.

I was actually thinking last night about how Bruce used to do Christmas shows in Asbury Park this time of year and I was being sad how he doesn't do them anymore. They were awesome. A nice mix of Christmas songs and deep cuts and guests all done in a glorified high school gym.

I live less than twenty minutes from A.P. Those shows are awesome, never got into them, but the fact that he did them for his hometown crowd all the time is awesome.

For those who have seen Bruce, what show was your favorite and why?

    Here's mine:
    Oct. 8, 2009 Giants Stadium
    Wrecking Ball (with Curt Ramm)
    Out in the Street
    Outlaw Pete
    Hungry Heart
    Working on a Dream
    Born To Run
    Thunder Road
Tenth Avenue Freeze-out (with Jake Clemons, Ed Manion, Curt Ramm)
    Night
    Backstreets
    Born to Run
    She's the One
Meeting Across the River (with Curt Ramm)
    Jungleland

    Waitin' on a Sunny Day
    Raise Your Hand (instrumental)
It's Hard to Be a Saint in the City
My Love Will Not Let You Down
    Because the Night
    Human Touch
    Lonesome Day
    The Rising
    Badlands
    No Surrender
    * * *
4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)
    Bobby Jean
    American Land (with Curt Ramm)
    Dancing in the Dark
    Rosalita
    Twist and Shout

This was a BTR show, and the last time I saw Bruce in the old Giants. I miss that building.

Legit thread! Springsteen (along with E street) is my favorite act, with DMB close behind. They both bring different things to the table, but nothing beats the intensity and insane fun of a Springsteen concert. I truly think the E Street band is currently the best band in the world.

I love the Darkness box. Some of the songs aren't great (hence them being cut from darkness) but there are still some gems in there. The Paramount performance is worth the buy alone.

My favorite show was Cleveland 11/10/2009. I was front row right in front of Bruce...literally hitting the jackpot on the pit lottery. I got to strum the fender during BTR, help him back onstage after Hungry Heart. I also got his guitar pick after American Land. Unfortunately for me, my friend got the harmonica!.....

As for the best setlist I've seen... I'd have to say anything from late in the magic tour. Oh how I wish I was at that St. Louis show, though...

    Re: Bruce Springsteen Appreciation Thread

I've seen Springsteen 15 times, and it's really close between 2 shows. the first one is the finale of the Magic Tour in Milwaukee at Harley Fest. He played for 3 hours and 45 minutes, and to see a half springsteen/half harley fans crowd by the end of the night dancing their ass off like they all were the biggest fans ever is one of the coolest thing i've ever seen:

    8/30/08

    Gypsy Biker
    Out in the Street
    Radio Nowhere
    The Promised Land
    Spirit in the Night
    Wooly Bully
    Darlington County
You Can Look (But You Better Not Touch)
Darkness on the Edge of Town
    Youngstown
    Murder Incorporated
    She's the One
    Livin' in the Future
    Mary's Place
    Working on the Highway
    Racing in the Street
    The Rising
    Last to Die
    Long Walk Home
    Badlands
    Seven Nights to Rock
    ________
4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)
    Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out
    Glory Days
    Born to Run
    Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)
    Bobby Jean
    American Land
    Thunder Road
    Dancing in the Dark
    Born to Be Wild
(You're not seeing things, 10-song encore)

The next time was last year in Milwaukee. I had seen them do Born to Run in full for the first time in Chicago 2 months earlier, and less just say for Springsteen's standards it was less than stellar. I really thought about not going to this since it was Born to Run again, and my hopes weren't high. Needless to say i was absolutely blown away. This show was simply outstanding.

    11/15/09

    Cadillac Ranch
    Badlands
    Hungry Heart
    Working on a Dream
    Thunder Road
    Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out
    Night
    Backstreets
    Born to Run
    She's the One
    Meeting Across the River
    Jungleland
    Darlington County
    Waitin' on a Sunny Day
Santa Claus Is Coming to Town
    Loose Ends
    Jole Blon
    Growin' Up
    Into the Fire
    The Rising
    No Surrender
    ______
    Living Proof
    Kitty's Back
    American Land
    Dancing in the Dark
    Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)
    Higher and Higher

The difference between a Springsteen show and a DMB show is there is a lot of down time between songs for DMB. When I say Springsteen played for 3 hours and 45 minutes, i mean that he played for 3 hours and 45 minutes, at age 60.

Bonzo - you witnessed two fantastic shows there. That "Racing" from Harleyfest is golden. Most likely the BEST performance of that song they have ever done. Definitive version of Gypsy Biker as well.

Not going to Milwaukee last year (as I had the chance) still pisses me off to this day. I already saw Born to Run in Cleveland and Detroit so I didn't have a ton of motivation to go to Milwaukee.

BUT DAMN: Loose Ends, Jole Blon, Growin' Up, Into the Fire, Living Proof (I never thought we would see this ESB style again) and Kitty! Along with Cadillac->Badlands to open!

    Huge regret!

He is the absolute best. No one compares in songwriting, overall musical talent, and live performance. He has everything. Best live show I've ever seen. At age 60.

I've seen the boss like 21 or 23 times. I can't pick a favorite show in particular, but the last four I saw were pure magic. Went to both MSG shows, Baltimore, and Buffalo on this last tour. Got to see WIESS, The River, BTR, and Greetings played in full. Nothing gets better than that. I've also been front row a couple of times, so that was fun too.

Ah, I need them to tour again.

Yeah those are definitely my top 2 for sure. It's difficult to pick which one i liked more. He always always has great show in Milwaukee.

My dad and I were gonna go to the WIESS/River shows at MSG last year, and didn't. That is my biggest regret ever, especially since NYC Serenade is my favorite song ever written, and I missed that beautiful version.

Man, if Bruce is one of your favorites already, you MUST see him live! It really does blow DMB out of the water. There's only one thing you're there for and Bruce makes it poignantly clear: Rock N' Roll.

One of the shows I caught during the 08 run, which was supposedly the last ever at Giants Stadium, was delayed til like 945 because of a turned over oil tanker on the exit for Rte. 3. Bruce caught wind, knew everyone would be late, and waited more than an hour after his normal start time. By the time they were bringing it home with Rosalita, I was calling friends in shock that I was still in the stadium at 1AM and they didn't believe me except for the wall of sound coming from the other end of the phone. Will never forget that night.

Yeah, those shows were legendary. There is already an IEM/matrix out there for the river night and GREAT news regarding WIESS night:

Yes. It seems Bruce is itching to get back on the road. He has been doing a lot of one off performances lately. I also think he realizes the band doesn't have that much time left, so he will want to take advantage of that soon.

Most of the band members have said 2012 would be the latest they would get back on the road, but dont be surprised if it is sooner. personally I don't mind the time off. I know Bruce has been busy promoting the Darkness box, but I'd love to see him take some time and create another top quality e street album, like Magic and then they can tour behind it.

See, with Bruce, when he decides to tour, he figures out 150 shows over two years. So when it happens, it's a blowout.

Love Bruce Springsteen. Saw him for the first time live last November and it was one of the best shows I've been to. He played "Born to Run" straight through. Those guys ain't young and yet they play songs back to back to back without taking a break. It's amazing.
