yea i mean in retrospect it should've been obvious. They'd already set up by that point of Josh being with Santos and CJ was well into her new position, so there needed to be a main thing for Toby to do (well and plus at first they were hinting soooooo strongly at CJ that it had to be a misdirect).

    Re: West Wing

Agree within the universe it didn't make sense for CJ to go to CoS but once she was in that role, it seemed natural. I agree it was her or Toby by I didn't really see Toby as it either. I know Richard didn't like what happened in Toby but they were trying to work in a Scooter Libby type story into the West Wing and did NASA and Toby. The story was ok but sucked the way it ended for Toby.

As for hinting at CJ, according to the writers during the dvd commentary, they weren't settled on who it was when they were shooting that episode.

Leo McGarry: Andrew Jackson, in the main foyer of his White House had a big block of cheese.
    Toby Ziegler: Huh.
Leo McGarry: I am making a mental list of those who are snickering, and even as I speak I am preparing appropriate retribution. The block of cheese was huge - over two tons. And it was there for any and all who might be hungry.
Toby Ziegler: Leo, wouldn't this time be better spent plotting a war against a country that can't possibly defend itself against us?
Leo McGarry: We can do that later, Toby. Right now I'm talking about President Andrew Jackson.
Sam Seaborn: Actually, right now, you're talking about a big block of cheese.
Leo McGarry: And Sam goes on my list!
Sam Seaborn: And what about Toby?
Leo McGarry: I'm unpredictable. Jackson wanted the White House to belong to the people, so from time to time, he opened his doors to those who wished an audience.
Mandy Hampton: And then he locked the doors behind them and made them eat two tons of cheese.

    Happy BBoC day!

Anybody else tune in to The West Wing Weekly, the brand new podcast led by Josh Molina?

Following the entire series, episode by episode. The pilot was launched last week and the first ep (recapping the pilot of the show) came out today or yesterday. Fantastic listen so far. So much detail and it makes rewatching so much more fun again.

It's a phenomenal series. When I started listening to the podcast they said their hopes were that we'd watch the episode before listening to the podcast episode of...a particular episode and I hadn't been able to until recently and it was a lot of fun watching it again. I'm hoping to keep going and watch the series all over again.

The podcast series has been real real good. The latest with Richard schiff is VERY interesting. I actually thought that's what the bump of this thread was for.

as much as I'm looking forward to the Schiff one, what I really can't wait for is when Brad Whitford finally guests. Because he in particular with Josh Malina have had a real good thing of busting on each other big time from what I've seen different stuff thru media and whatnot. They never stop giving each other shit.

edit - okay what in the goddamn fuck is wrong with Ants?? this repeat post thing has been happening for weeks now, and I just tried to post in two different threads (with PLENTY of time in between) where upon initially trying to submit, I got the "the site requires you to wait 30 seconds between posts, please wait 5 more seconds"), then when I went back to the main menu, saw not even the original was posted at all.
well, to THIS one, where I finally REALLY fixed it

This weeks episode is the reunion panel they did last week. This is great. Right now, as I listen to it, they are talking about Take This the Sabbath Day. First, a fantastic episode but it was also the introduction of Joe Lucas when Josh was hungover. This show could weave comedy with the heavy conversation of the death penalty and pull it off.

Funny this thread got bumped. For Father's Day, I got the box set for the entire West Wing. Can't wait to rewatch this summer. I think the wife finally got on board recently to watch and knew I've wanted this box set for awhile so she got the very popular "we" gift.

I just rewatched Take This Sabbath Day and good Lord this might be the deepest episode in the entire series. Top to bottom it's impressive, and then the ending is just explosive. If anybody hasn't listened to the West Wing Weekly podcast about this ep yet I recommend it. Wow.

I didn't watch the episode but listened to the podcast. Maybe I'll watch it tonight. I agree though one of the best and deepest episodes of the whole show. On the podcast I loved them bringing on an actual rabbi to talk.

On the less serious side of things I still love the Josh spitting out the coffee and Donna's line so perfectly delivered after he's already drank it.."It's from yesterday, so it might not be hot anymore." lol

Just watched it again. Commencement is the best episode of the series. Noel, 20 hours in America, Isaac and Israel, White House pro-am, 25, two cathedrals.... Commencement is best.

speaking of the s3 and s4 finales, part of what I loved is they each introduced me to killer music. I'd genuinely never heard before of Jeff Buckley's "Hallelujah", nor "Angel" from Massive Attack scored over that unbelievably awesome montage leading up to Zoey's kidnapping. And in fact I always remember thinking the one blond chick who was at that point newly on Zoey's detail (and would be going to Paris with her), she was super adorable. Molly, the one that Toby wound up naming the one girl twin of his after. She was really just so damn cute.

and btw, Danny I'm just curious, are there any/many eps from seasons 5-7 that you'd say you've wound up seeing just as many times as ones from 1-4?

Quoted this to say we started it last week and are on episode 9 already. Wish we had time to fit more in. I just love this show and am enjoying her reactions to all of it. My first rewatch from the start. Almost sucks to say we are on vacation and can't watch any til Thursday

I'll answer this question for myself. Any? For sure. Season 5 not so much but I loved a lot of the primary stuff in season 6. King Corn I thought was great, the episode where Santos does his "ad" at the tv station, the California Primary, the last episode of the season too. From the election episodes to the end I watch a lot for season 7 and there are a few others too. I'd have to look through the episode list to see which ones. Can't think of them off the top of my head. As many though? No way. I'm not a hater on the last seasons as some are but clearly the first few are better.

If this is directed at me, my name's Sean, not Danny

But to answer the question, no absolutely not. I watch seasons 1/2 probably once a week. They're just so. damn. good. There's a few in the latter seasons that are good, as Tim said. All the ones he listed are good episodes, and arguably they're as good as any single episode in the first 4 seasons. But there simply aren't any bad episodes in the first 4.
