Saw the show last night in Memphis and if I'm completely honest. I'm walking away disappointed.

Overall, it was a fun show and I'm glad I went but they didn't come out until 9 and they were off the stage at 10:30. They only played 16 songs and 4 of them were off the new album.

The light show is incredible though. I think I watched that more than I did the band.

Do they sound okay at least?

I remember being so upset I missed them in 2006 when they came to Boston. I would like to see them, but not if they suck now.

Yea I've looked at sets from this tour and just doesn't look like anything I'd go out of my way for. A band with the catalog they have needs to play more than 16 songs a night, especially when you've got shows barely hitting 1.5 hours. That's very disappointing to me. Caught them on the Stadium Arcadium tour in Boston with Frusciante years back and it was a great show but also on the short end, which was a bummer.

Yep. Looks like all the sets have been short this tour so far too.

Yeah they sounded good. They didn't sound any better/worse than when I saw them in 2012. I will say I don't think they had as much energy as they did in 2012. But they had played a show in NOLA the night before and they're not spring chickens so I'm sure they were a little tired.

That was my thoughts too. When I saw them in 2012 it was around 20 or 22 songs. A good length set and I felt fully satisfied leaving. It was a good mix of old and new. A few deep cuts and a good parade of the hits. This setlist just felt short in every way. Too many new songs, only one deep cut and missed several of the big hits that should be at every show.

All this said, I'm still very grateful I got to see them again. They're in my top 10 (and sometimes top 5) and I'm fortunate to have had the opportunity. With so many legends passing in 2016 I wasn't going to risk miss seeing them one more time. Even if it was a short show, it was still a very entertaining show. The light show is worth the price of admission alone.

Saw them last night and while they sounded great, it's more than likely a one time thing for me. First of all, they went on at about 9:40, and played for approximately an hour and a half (may have been even shorter). Second, and although this didn't really affect me, I'm disappointed to hear that they pretty much played the same songs all 3 nights at MSG.

Those are the common complaints of the tour. Not sure if it's their age or they're just mailing it in, but a lot of people have walked away disappointed.

Weird that this thread resurfaces the same day I listened to One Hot Minute for the first time in like 15 years. I have this massive old collection of CDs so lately I've been grabbing a handful of them every week and listen on my commute. Such a weird part of this band's history. There's still a few great songs on it though

They are a great band, but I've not listened to much outside of MM, BSSM, or Cali in recent years. I'm always listening to music and finding new artists, and lately the cost has been keeping up with older artists that I've enjoyed through the years. I wasn't a fan of the pre-Frusciante albums or those that have followed his departure. I should spend some time doing a solid re-listen to all of that stuff. John remains special and clearly a unique muse for and within the band. I enjoyed One Hot Minute back in the day and Stadium Aracdium. By the Way, didn't grab me at the time. We had some big family issues at the time that overshadow my memory of much else. O, This Side, Revelling/Reckoning, AKUS Live, Up, Good Morning Aztlán, Voyage to India, Daybreaker, Dirty Vegas, Rush of Blood to the Head, and Busted Stuff are pretty much the only "new" albums I remember from the time..and I listened to them a ton.

Wondering if the two US festival dates they have now are warmup gigs to get out of the studio? Go out and test some new material. Either way, with John being back seeing them just became a very high priority.

Hadn't prioritized seeing them, but we're big fans. As I stated in my post from June, John elevates the band so much. We'll be looking out for new music and dates to make sure we see THE RHCP line-up live. Glad John is back and I know Flea must be elated...he has always been an emphatic supporter/recognizer of John's contributions to the band. Not that the other guys aren't, he's just more enthusiastic about it out of the two original guys...although I have heard that John and Anthony butt heads a bit.

The immediate access to superb LIVE music is by far my favorite thing about the internet. It just hit me that as long as they continue releasing shows on livechilipeppers.com there'll be tons of shows to download with John. I've been wanting more Archive shows from livechilipeppers.com since they released the last 5 from between 1999-2006 a few years back.

There's so many great shows from 99-07 already available, but the band was on frickin' fire throughout John's last era. Not to mention, there's also around 7 albums worth of material out there between demos, b-sides and rough mixes. I'm so excited for what's coming up with John being back it's not even funny. I found all that stuff on Reddit a few years back & from various blogs & sites. I even bought both Bootlegs for the Tokyo 2007 shows from a Vendor in Japan. Osaka is on eBay ATM but I already made artwork for the one I have. If I knew for sure it was a Silver CD, I'd probably buy it right now. Need to research that on Discogs, lol..

A lot of stuff is still on YT and rhcplivearchive.com is a newer site that has a lot of great shows. There's lots of soundboard recordings and some stellar taper pulls available. It's easy to find all the info regarding the shows and super easy to download.

    http://rhcplivearchive.com/

    News:

*Take w/ a grain of salt*: Saw on Reddit that: Allegedly, someone met Chad at his art show the other night met Chad and asked him what was up. To briefly summarize - Supposedly John missed being in a band and wanted to come back. It's basically his spot in the band, so the change was copacetic.

Chad mentioned in a recent interview from Rolling Stone that they're working up new material to record now but he had instructions "Not to talk about the band". I'm pretty excited for new music and LIVE shows!

I like the song. Feels more like classic RHCP than anything they've done in the last decade. Frusciante absolutely saves the song. Without his tone, chorus or solo it'd fallen into the mediocrity of the last two albums.
