Is that a lyric or the title of a song? Either way, it's awful.

Its Zac Brown Band. Pretty sure the name of the song is 'Chicken Fried'. Obviously not meant to be some intricate work celebrated buy mastermind composers abroad... but if it comes on at a tail gate or a late night get together with friends, no complaints will be had.

The Band's style of music stems from the folk/roots music that they were making with Dylan at the time of the Basement Taps and Music from the Big Pink. To argue that they are a country band moreso than a roots/folk band is pretty laughable.

The correct examples that you would be searching for that time period would be Gram Parsons, the Bryds (after 1968) and the Flying Burrito Brothers.

    Again, all pretty simple.....
What's laughable is acting like folk/roots and country music are as different as rock and hip-hop. Especially in the 60s/70s, roots and country are nominally different at most; roots is essentially a sub genre of country.

So yes, it is pretty simple.

My point since page 1 on here is that "country" is too inclusive a genre to just cast aside everything that falls underneath it. It's a huge descriptor. I mean, half the modern country we all hate isn't even country if you compare it so the OG shit. Much of today's country is just rock sung by a person with a thick accent.

Country music is my favorite genre of music. Unfortunately, today's country music is an absolute joke. Heard this one this morning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yljf4Lpj7CI

I HATED country music most of my life. All I ever heard was what was on the radio and looking back on the 90s stuff compared to the crap that comes out today, that was gold. Having lived in MS my whole life, most country that I hear on the radio today, to me, is just hick pop. With that said, I've discovered Jamey Johnson and he is incredible. I listen to him from time to time and always enjoy it. I respect Brad Paisely as a guitarist, because he is a pretty good axe-slayer. I've gotten to where I love Hank Williams Jr. His stuff is just rowdy fun to me.

I love the way country music apologists try to expand the definition of what qualifies as country to as wide as possible in a effort to get more people to realize they actually like it.

Re: Do you like country music?

I love 90's country music (Garth, George Strait, Brooks n Dunn, Alan Jackson etc) I grew up on that shit. I think it's really great music and it still had twang.

Today's country is just pop garbage. The artists don't even look like country artists anymore (not this it really matters I guess) but Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean wear tight designer jeans and tights black shirts and look like nu-metal sings. I cannot wrap my head around that.

Unfortunately, my state has produced some absolute shit country musicians the past 5+ years with Puke Bryan and Jason Aldean and some other shitty "country" artitsts. Luke is actually from my home town which makes it worse.

This is all you need for a country song today: Beer, girl with a tan, bed of a truck, dirt roads, chilling, etc. Every fucking song is the same. It's just embarrassing to music.

Since this is obviously directed at me, what's make music 'country' to you? Explain using musical terms so you can clearly contrast it to roots, southern rock, etc please.

Also, this wikipedia article has a ton of errors if what I'm saying isn't true.

Ok, so unless it sounds like the majority of popular country music as it exists in 2014 it's not country? Got it.

What's the deal with rock n roll then? Is music not rock unless it sounds like early 50s rock? Or does that music not count as rock anymore because it doesn't sound like Imagine Dragons?

To me (and probably Zaj), it sure does.

But since Dave doesn't have an accent, and there's no steel track cranked, it's not country apparently.

    They started in 1967.

Seems like a good list though it's funny that CCR, DMB, nor The Band are on it.

First off, I never called DMB country. I said country influenced, but nice try.

Secondly, I don't know how many more times I can say "country" covers a broad spectrum of music. Are you really this dense? I included those two in a list that showed a range of music that falls under the country name, something that all the people that have edited the country wikipedia page agree with me on. I was never comparing The Band to Brooks and Dunn, my entire point was actually that they weren't the same thing, just under the same umbrella.

Every award show is going to have a narrow definition or else it'd go on forever. Look at the Grammy's, look at the AMA's, look at MTV stuff, it's all the same acts. You really think Katy Perry's "Roar" was one of the best 5 songs written in 2013? Of course not.

But I'm still waiting for you to explain what country music is in musical terms. What makes Johnny Cash or ZZ Top or Ryan Adams, who I included in that list, fit under country, but not The Band?

Maybe Katy did not win but at least she was not up for a BET award either.

Relax homey, the fact that you put country in " " proves my point.

ZZ Top stopped playing county in the 80s, the Band like Little Feat is Southern Rock. Brian Adams is 80s pop.

    Nah.

Roots/folk was around waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy before Country so Country would actually be a sub genre of Roots/Folk

Compare John Wesley Harding, The Basement Tapes, and Music from the Big Pink to Sweetheart of the Rodeo, Gilded Palace of Sin, and Grievous Angel.

Are there some similarities? Sure. But they are as different as Day and Night. Which is why the Band (and CCR) are not country bands

That is so classic. I listen to country on the AM quite a bit, they play songs like this endlessly. It's nice because they avoid 99% of the crap that has come out in the last 20 years.

In my opinion, george strait ruined what was "country music". His influences are the reason we have pop-country. The classic country station here in town plays anything from the 50's-80's country--and on sunday it's bluegrass. It's a shame that no one knows or respects good classic country anymore...
