Re: Do you like country music?

old work truck engine blew up. boss got a new work truck (1993 ford explorer 4x4) from Bozeman. clean as hell. decided to check the arm rest area... found a plethora of classic country cassette tapes. been jamming "No Fences" for the past two weeks. i didn't realize how much i missed that cassette sound.

side note: the fuel guage is bad and always reads empty. i was told that it will get 300 miles per tank. ran out of gas at 108 yesterday, approximately half a mile per road and quarter mile in elevation from the control room. that was a shitty walk in mud.

Both sound like the start of country songs.

I'm not a huge fan, but I like me some Garth, Brad Paisley, Phil Vassar, Darius Rucker, and Keith Urban (which is basically just pop/rock with a mandolin or banjo thrown in).

Just watched Gone with the wind on Reel to Reel about Skynryd and really enjoyed it. Wow, so legit.

Then it was followed up by on the same channel by a recent performance by the current band and it was just so weak. Johnnys voice is fine but as a front man, he's just so lacking.

Seemed more into God, America, and the audience than he did the music. And I like God and America but it was just such a pander.

    Old new guilty pleasure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFz61X2PQTw

Dude has some pipes. This was solid country music 10 years ago before the same ole recycled shit became the new trend.

I enjoy maybe 2 Luke Bryan songs because he's a local guy but other than that it's just pop music with a twang. It's the genre that will make you buckets of money so I understand why people gravitate towards it. Chris Stapleton is a nice refreshing voice for country. Give him a listen. He's like a mixture of Hank, Allman Brothers, and Johnny Cash.

I don't mind it. It's not my favorite by any means. I like the more genuine, soulful, older stuff like Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, etc. Not a big fan of a lot of the newer music but I admit I like Darius Rucker quite a bit even though it's not the most artful music in the world.

Current radio/pop/bro country is probably the worst drivel that has ever been spewed to the masses.

I hate country (minus ZBB, Johnny Cash) but there are some good acts out there. Ive heard great things about Chris Stapleton, might need to give him a try.

ZBB was the first act that got me into country. I don't really like their most recent album, but their style somewhat encouraged me to explore the genre. I definitely gravitate towards older country, your Alan Jackson, George Strait, Garth Brooks type stuff.

As far as newer acts, really like Chris Stapleton and Eric Church. Also have been digging Sturgill Simpson lately. Listened to a new artist, Drake White, who just came out with his first album. Really some strong stuff on there as well.

There's a whole whole lot of garbage out there, but some newer acts are pretty fantastic, and somewhat hearken back to more old-school country.

It hurts so much that in this pittsburgh this summer the only 2 night stand was fucking Luke Bryan, as far as I know at least.

I don't know if any of you have heard of Steve Moakler, he sings a song called "Suitcase", I know he has been getting play on some XM radio stations. But he went to HS with me, he was 2 years older but I did have a class with him.

I feel like if you say, "I don't like country music, but I really like Sturgill Simpson and Chris Stapleton" you are doing yourself a disservice.

If you like those guys you do like actual country music. The stuff the CMAs or country radio spews out is terrible. Acts that are on par with Simpson and Stapleton are out there. Unfortunately, you have to look for them because they aren't "mainstream".
