Ticketek lists the event as starting at 7:30 - I don't know when DMB are on - my guess would be about 8:45, but who knows!?

DMB must love their own hits. Do you think if it wasn't for us crazy fans, this is the setlist they would choose all the time? This is a like a greatest hits show. Which being out of the states I get, but aren't they tired of playing sets like this? If this show started off the tour in the states, we'd never hear the end of it on the boards.

It seems like they would like to become a band that just plays the hits. Just like all other bands from the past. Luckily, DMB has a lot of them, but I'm worried this is the future. Just new takes on old songs with an occasional new song or cover thrown in the mix. Hopefully I'm wrong. I would be disappointed with this set though if I saw them tonight.

I think the future you're worried about has been here for a couple years now. Look at the last several tours and you'll see that a bunch of the same songs - Jimi, DDTW, You and Me, SMLAM, Grey Street, etc. - are among the most played every time, usually around an every other show average. It becomes even more apparent when you look at the similarities amongst one night stands (Jimi appeared at 15 of the 24 one nighters last summer). This doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing, but considering the quality of the songs that get regular play versus those that don't, it is.

As for the first Australia show, I don't think it looks bad, but it's just nothing special. Last summer was great because the average show was still very good. They need to strive to keep raising that bar.

Well they didn't practice at all based on tweets.....not surprising West Coast Blues N Roots was very standard.

The April shows last year (2013) were pretty standard too. They don't really bother to get together and work on things unless it's the summer tour (See the Fallon interview before December '12 where Dave flat out says they met an hr before the first show for that winter tour). For summer though they always spend time rehearsing and working w/ the rig so it'll definitely be different come mid-May.

I'd expect the next few shows to be more interesting w/ 2 of them being their own and then 2 sets at the same festival (different nights @ Byron).

The April 2013 shows were cool because they were so close to me, we seldom get love in the South, but they were very 2012, that was the downfall.

Plus they haven't been here to Australia for 7 years, and even though I've been a fan for 8.5 years, I still haven't heard Grey Street, Two Step, What Would You Say, You and Me, Why I Am etc etc etc live yet...so I don't mind a greatest hits show really...plus when I saw them 7 years ago in Sydney they still did a few surprises like Seek Up, DDTW with Xavier Rudd, so I wasn't complaining!

for one of 30+ US shows every summer, ya, it'd be a disappointment. but for people who only see them every several years, i don't think they're complaining about much

Agreed with the comments that the set-list was average. I was at the gig and them Aussie's generally seemed pleased as punch with what DMB put together. A 2-hr slot at Blues and Roots in Perth (first time ever here as we know) was never going to be a Gorge Saturday or Sunday night set.

The hurry-up between songs seemed to indicate they were trying to deliver a solid effort for the Perth fans. Bar Jimi Thing, the jams were shortened and they used every minute (+5) of their allotted set.

Luckily for us crazies that critique song selection, we've seen them elsewhere (probably dozens of times) on multi-night stands where the set is more to our liking. The average Aussie punter who thought John Mayer was the headliner left satisfied.

I am not wanting to make any assertions or assumptions, nor alarm anyone, but Boyd looked very sick tonight in Sydney.

I was watching him wondering what was going on, he wasn't involved from the beginning for a long period, and i just took it for being that he is not involved in a lot of songs. But he seemed off with the pixies....that's being nice but is all i will say about how he 'looked'.

Then when he got a song he is front and center for, his bow was slipping off the violin, he kept fumbling it, and then even dropped it. Dave was with him coaxing him to keep it together and carry on, and he unsteadily bent down and picked it up and continued on. It was a strange and sorry sight.

Boyd did improve later when he had a few solos, but still he was having issues keeping the bow on the violin and again when off to the side just adding his little parts. Kinda saddened my night and is unfortunately the memory i take away from it despite being a pretty good concert..

I've gotta agree with Noodler above ^ that Boyd didn't seem himself tonight. He seemed unwell, unsteady on his feet, sloppy and just generally pretty sick...He only really featured in Jimi, Nancies and Ants. We barely heard him besides that...

BUT...amazing show! Loved every minute of it, and the rest of them were sensational!

Normally you'd think maybe just under the weather, travel, etc. But is a little worrisome with the timing of the 'no more gatherings' announcement. No mentions of illness on Twitter.

That's odd I also read that he dropped his bow sitting in with Phil & Friends earlier this month too. Though there were a lot of positive reviews of his performances there And then the no gatherings announcement. Hope BT is okay.

A couple of reviews of the show that are very positive...even with the bow drop.

From where I was standing (pretty much eyeballing Rashawn and Jeff), I didn't see as much as some. Yes, Boyd looked, shall I say, subdued, but I never really thought much about it until I got home from the show and logged on here.

I'm not going to let it dampen the absolute blast I had though. I think I enjoyed last night a little more than 5/5/07 (partly because of where I was in the venue, and also the fact it was 7 years since the last show), and I got to meet Dave afterwards and get a photo with him (albeit with him on the other side of a fence ).

    Melbourne 17/4/14

    Boyd's back.

An early fumble during DDTW and it seemed something really was amiss, then Dave coaxed him out of his shell during LIOG and he never realky looked back.

Clearly, going by the interactions on stage, there had been some concerns though. Dave gave the finger to someone off stage after Boyd ripped up Ants to close out the night - as if to say 'told ya so'.

Great show. Hopefully not another 7 years to wait for the next.

For those attending Byron, enjoy! #jealous
