Re: Stranger Things (New Netflix Original Series)

Through 5 episodes and I think its very solid. I would agree the directing is a bit shaky, and the plot seems to jump around a bit too much but it keeps you on the edge of your seat. Sheriff is probably the best character on the show.

So is this going to be one story? Or is each season individual stories?

I thought that part was v confusing as well. The decision making of some of the characters is v nonsensical sometimes.

It was ok. The acting was 10x better than the directing & the writing.

I binged a bit this weekend. Think I've seen 5 of the 8.

Really enjoying it. I have a pretty good idea of where its headed, so it would be nice to be proved wrong and have the show move out of the cliche a little bit.

Regardless tho, its a fun watch for sure

17 year old goes missing. Meh, she probably ran away. She was a chubby prude with some hideous glasses, good riddance.

I have two episodes left. I've noticed a million nods to Stephen King in this show. Christine, Cujo, It and a ton towards Stand By Me. Probably more that I haven't caught.

Definitely some references to the Walking Dead, the X Files and Jaws too.

Just finished the series. It definitely entertained me for the weekend. There are also not-so-subtle nods to ET and Stephen King's Firestarter in addition to the ones I mentioned above.

okay first of all, someone's already cut together a network sitcom parody trailer of this. And though technically the music used is from the 90s, it still goes very well

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0K0VpPjMjQ

and that led me to this. I'd never heard of this youtube channel before, but watched this analysis/review video on a lark and I found it very informative and illuminating.

Just finished the season. Those 8 episodes went fast. They do you a good make making you feel emotionally invested in everyone's story line. I want more.

Thoroughly enjoyed this show. I couldn't get over the fact that it was done recently. They did a fantastic job of making it look like it was made in 1986 and set in present day 1986.

Wife and I were talking about a season 2. Do we know if it'll be a continuation of season 1 or will it be ala True Detectives and be a whole new story line? I like how they left it semi open-ended. They could come back to these characters and it would be ok or they could carry it further.

    Agreed

I didn't find the story hard to follow, exactly, but I thought it got pretty meandering towards the end.

I think they did an even better job of making it feel like 1983 Jokes aside, I read an thing with the creators and they said they've got a notebook full of ideas about the creature, the other world, and probably some other things I'm forgetting, and that they want to expand on that in season two. I'll try and find the article for y'all.

    1986, 1983, whatever

Part of me wants to see the continuation of the characters, but I also think the series might lose some of its charm as the kids get older.
