ROADIES (new Cameron Crowe series on Showtime)

Granted, Cameron Crowe is no longer a director where I could say, "he's never made a bad film". cause he was on a pretty good streak to start his career. And while there may be some wishy-washyness from some on both Elizabethtown and We Bought A Zoo, I doubt there's a single friggin person could stand up for Aloha


but, he's Exec Produced this new series coming up on Showtime about the behind the scenes of a close knit group of roadies for a rock band titled, surprisingly enough, Roadies. It's got a pretty solid cast, including the impossibly adorable Imogen Poots. and the first of 10 episodes debuts online on June 13, then Showtime itself June 26th. It's got two trailers out now, to look enough for me easily to give it a shot and be excited. Crowe wrote and directed the pilot.

Luke Wilson, Carla Cugino, Imogen Poots, Rafe Spall, Ron White, Luis Guizman, and Rainn Wilson some of the biggest names. JJ Abrams is also one of the EPs.

Hmmm... As someone who works in the industry I thought this would be awesome. There's comedy gold behind the scenes of shows. While there can be drama it's usually ego induced drama, not crazy love, hope, dream drama. Not to mention what's with all the females?? In 15 years I can count on two hands the number of women I've come across in the business that did actual roadie/audio/lighting work. This crew has like 4 lol.

I might give the first episode a whirl, but it just looks a bit too cheesy for me going off that trailer.

watched the pilot this past weekend. It is streaming for free apparently on Showtime's website, but supposedly it's kinda censored there (there's two brief topless scenes, and of course some profanity). But Hulu has it uncut and without any ads.

It was good, if a little formulaic, definitely more than enough to make me want to keep watching. But honestly if you look at a lot of shows that you really like, you look back and very often the pilot episode winds up being one of the weakest overall entries. Pearl Jam got pretty solidly name checked, not surprisingly, one of the side characters was supposed to have just worked for them, they mention Mike McCready in particular. And a great PJ song gets used.

and btw the trailer they put out, obviously that was cut from a group of episodes, cause there was some stuff in it not included in the pilot at all.

Mainly live sound but dabble in studio stuff/writing jingles, lighting etc. But I'd say 95% of what I do is live sound.

Well that sucked. Such a good idea, and it looks like it will have great music. But the dialogue and story are gonna be rough. All the groupie/stalker stuff was eyeroll worthy.

Looks like this is gonna be more Aloha than Jerry Maguire.

I'll sign up for Showtime app for free for a month to watch it. I was one who was Crowe can do no wrong and Elizabethtown and Zoo weren't as strong as the past they were still good imo. Haven't seen Aloha and won't but I'll check this out for the free trial.

The whole ex-relationship tour managers is gonna get old yesterday.

I'll watch for the tits and music and hope for more Luis Guzman and the soundboard chick as long as I can. But it looks like it's gonna be a MST3000 type of show.

do you realize that's one of the Sand Snakes from Game of Thrones? she's the one that I would say was the most sort of butch looking out of the three (although she looks very cute in this show).

and btw I was skimming over a CC interview a couple days ago about this, they originally had Christina Hendricks cast in the role that Carla Cugino is now playing. It was however quite a bit different on the page originally, and it was just sort of while going thru the process of shaping it all up into a complete story that Crowe just started to realize Hendricks wasn't right for the role. But they seem to have split amicably, and he says he can't wait to work with her on something else later (there was nothing from her).

I watched the first two episodes on Sunday. I enjoyed it. Yeah nothing spectacular but I found it kind of fun. Cameron Crowe sure is good at picking music for his stuff.

Watched both yesterday. Not really sure how I feel about it. Definitely feels corny. Owen Wilson doesnt seem to fit the tone of the show at all.

Does anyone else watch on showtime anytime on XB1 and have major volume issues? Its normally a problem for all shows but this was the worst. I was turning the volume up and down all show. Music SUPER loud, then one on one convo's insanely quiet.
