Re: ***Official Bend, OR August 26th, 2014 Thread***

Hope I can help with a little town and venue info. 12 yr Bend resident and have been to 30+ DMB shows, but none since 06.

The Les Schwab Amphitheatre is a fun place to see a show. Definitely small as indicated (8k seems about right). Usually shows are just GA but the "bigger" shows can have some small reserve seating front and center. Due to size, no real bad seats. Acoustics are so-so. Great place to see a show though as the Deschutes River runs along and behind the venue and stage. Many Bendites float the river on air mattresses and listen to concerts on the river for free. Lots of restaurants across the river where you can sit and listen to shows while eating and drinking. Can't see the show from any of the free spots however.

Should be an epic show. Other bigger acts to play the venue in years past have included Jack Johnson, Coldplay, STP, and lots of older acts like mellencamp, Dylan, willie Nelson. IMO this is by far the biggest show ever in this venue. Will be cool to see them in OR at a small venue.

Awesome town of about 85k ppl. There are 15 microbreweries and growing. Tons of awesome hiking, mountain biking, golf and fishing in the area. Not really a tailgate scene but there are a million cool spots within walking distance to grab some great brews prior to shows. In the shows, they sometimes do a beer garden but a lot of times let you bring beers back to your seats. Even if they do a beer garden you can still see the show from it.

Hope this is helpful. Can't believe this show is actually happening! See you in Bend. Do yourself a favor and if you're traveling to this show give yourself a couple days to hang out in Bend, you won't regret it.

Hilton Garden in is in the Old Mill; walk out the door, across the river on a footbridge and you're at the show. Sounds like it's sold out though. Downtown is a 15 minute walk and the downtown scene is great. The 2 nice hotels downtown are the Doubletree (used to be a Phoenix Inn) and the swanky place is the Oxford Hotel.

Other places to check out that are close would be the Pine Ridge Inn and Mt. Bachelor Village, which rents condos. Those are both walkable but more in the 20 to 30 minute time frame. Nice walk along the river from either.

Talked to the Old Mill ticket office and sounds like this will be a General Admission only show; no reserved seats. They usually have VIP tents in the back corner of the amphitheatre, but at this show there will not be any VIP tents. Hope that helps, let me know if anyone has Bend questions that I can answer. Ton of interest around town for the show. I'm trying to get my hands on any extra tickets for college friends and local buddies, so if anyone ends up with extra tickets to this show, let me know and I'd be happy to buy them.

No camping options close to the venue. Venue is 30 minute drive from the Cascade Lakes Highway, and there are a ton of bad ass lakes and rivers you can camp at up there.

Stuff is booking quickly around town. Looks like the Doubletree downtown (used to be the Phoenix Inn for former locals) is going for 189 to 239 a night. But for 239 you can get a suite with 1 king and 2 queen beds, which can get pretty cheap. That puts you smack in downtown Bend, 15 minute walk to Old Mill District which is where the venue is.

If anyone has questions about particular lodging or anything around town let me know; happy to help with what I can.

We were shocked that the park service only charges $10 for a carload and that's good for a week!!!! These days we overpay for a lot of things but that is a steal of a deal. We will be coming from the Berkeley shows so we are going to stop again. I want to hike up to the top of the watchman station this year.

Yeah I am in love with Crater Lake! We hiked Watchman's last year Tuesday morning after the gorge, not a hard hike at all (coming from Denver) I highly recommend it!

You might also check the Hampton Inn which is building a hotel right next to the Venue. Building is framed out but not sure if it will be open by August 26th.

Another suggestion is Mt Bachelor Village (www.mtbachelorvillage.com) which is just a quick walk to the venue.
