The market determines the value, look at the last 5-10 QB signings, that is the market.

It's pretty upsetting to me that Dalton got 100+ million when he can barely throuw a football further than I. As a Browns fan, love, love, love this signing though!

I mean you should never be content with Andy dalton as your starting qb

drafted bridgewater and made this a literal make or break year for dalton?

    lol no it's not

some recent signings include: Flacco, Rodgers, Ryan, Kaepernick, Brees

andy dalton has a glaring difference in career achievements compared to these guys, can you guess what it is?

this dalton signing falls into the matt stafford/tony romo category as way above market value

It amazes me people still don't understand NFL contracts. This is almost certainly going to be a pay as you go contract like Kaep's

    not true at all

Ryan is a much better QB at home
Ryan has much better regular season success overall
    Ryan has a playoff win
Ryan has never had a decent defense on the other side helping him out

Yep, could be we are looking at annual salary in the 10 million range and a balloon payment of 65 million for year 6.

they both average exactly 10 regular season wins

also, one playoff win when you're 1-4 in the postseason isn't way more impressive than 0-3

I'd take Matt Ryan over Andy Dalton anyday. Really hoping there is 3-4 years guaranteed in the Dalton contract.

one playoff win in 5 chances isn't a great number, though.
he didn't play well last year when he lost two of his top weapons.
    agreed on the defense though.
i just wouldn't say they're terribly far apart.

last year's falcons bring matty ice's average wins way down

and when you don't have a top 10 defense on the other side like dalton has had the last 3 seasons, it stands out

there's also the eye test, and Ryan passes way more often than Dalton

i'm just saying they paid way over what they should have considering the results dalton has given them thus far, bad business IMO

although i'd agree in rather having Ryan under center, i wouldn't say it's by any huge margin over Dalton.

it brought it down from 10.8 wins per season to 10.
    so no, not "way down".

i think Ryan and Dalton are worlds apart

in 2012 Matt Ryan had 70% completions with 6 TDs and 3 INTs, with a 1-1 record

and absolutely no defense around him

i'll take Matt Ryan everyday of the week especially when you throw Dalton's new contract into the mix

just saying that I don't think ryan is that ridiculous of a standard to hold dalton to

I think the general hivemind opinion isn't the money, but the commitment to dalton for at least a few years more

Tuel may be the worst QB on an NFL roster..

Manuel is bad and probably always will be but he deserves at least another year or two
