Re: Song Chasing

47 shows and no Halloween…and it pains me. Have had some pretty tough misses:

2008 - They start playing it regularly late in the summer, usually after ASTB. We are heading to Gorge and hopes are high, Roi dies, they stop playing it, at the Gorge the play ASTB all three nights, each time into something not Halloween

2009 - Flight and hotel booked for Star Lake...decide to pass because of where wife was at with pregnancy. Halloween played on night two.

2010 - Played in Columbus (Time Bomb->Halloween) the night before DTE (which gets Time Bomb->AATW)

2010 - Debated between going to Charlottesville and Wrigley - Chose Wrigley..Charlottesville is epic with Halloween, Wrigley gets the Carter drum intro into Cornbread

2011 - Couldn't travel to any shows because of wife's second pregnancy...Halloween played at almost every Caravan stop

My plan for this year was to let Stefan know via Twitter that Detroit has never gotten it but someone beat me to that idea with Hartford (well done btw). I may still try that approach…or maybe a sign that calls that fact out at the show.

I think my chasing days are over though...will likely need to be played in Detroit or I may be out of luck

So I'm chasing You Never Know. It was just played at Riverbend. 3 day break. I'll be at Toronto Saturday and Blossom Sunday.

    Chances of me hearing it?

Can someone please tell me what the hell the big deal is about halloween? Seriously. Answer the question. Is it because it's faster/heavier? The screaming? Lyrics?

Don't get me wrong i do like it and I would not turn it down but I've been amazed over the years at the people chasing this song.

Seriously every time they play Halloween all the sudden people call the show "epic".

I could probably list 50 songs I'd rather hear in its place. Tell me what u like about it. I want to hear your opinions. Thanks all and don't hate me

Have you ever heard it live? It's a rarity and very intense live.

Have you ever heard it live? It's one of their best live songs.

But the reason many chase, I believe, is due to its scarcity. It was sort of the holy grail for awhile in the early 2000's. It's been "heavily" played the last few years but for many years, it was absent and the times it appeared, those shows were considered epic like 12-21-02 or way above average like 9-8-2 or 12-10-05. Check out the times played per the almanac.

    http://www.dmbalmanac.com/SongStats.aspx?sid=29

There are a lot of years missing. It was played a total of 7 times from summer of '99 til summer of '08. That's not a lot. And if you didn't get in recent years at one of your shows, odds are that you are "chasing" it and it is one of the songs you most want to hear.

This is the category I fall into...the fact they are a little more liberal with it now adds to the frustration of not being able to catch it.

As for why, some of it is scarcity but really it comes down to the energy / intensity of the song. Those are the type of songs I enjoy most.

    And of course, Halloween.

My buddy and I made it our mission in 2010 to hear Last Stop...we brought signs, started chants, and then after we were all done seeing shows in the midwest, they break it out at WPB :bang

Edit: emoticon fail. Just like our Last Stop fail.
