Jason Isbell

Anyone here listen to him. He is a former member of the Drive-By Truckers (another great band) his stuff with them along with his solo album is great. He has another cd coming out soon according to his myspace, just wondering if anyone else enjoys listening to him. One of my favorite acts out there today. If you get a chance take a listen to his first cd Sirens of the Ditch its a great cd.

Jason Isbell is great. I was sorry to see him leave DBT, but now we have two great bands instead of one, so there isn't anything to complain about. There a lot of great SBDs out from this tour too.

Very excited for the new album announcement. Seeing him next month, hoping he plays some new music.

Also, I have been on these boards for way too long, starting a thread about him back in 2008. Good gawd I am getting old.

I'll make it 7. Saw him at the Ryman in October. Borderline religious experience. Can't wait for this new record.

Big fan too. Seen him 4 or 5x now. Some of the most heart-wrenching songs I've ever heard but he can make that guitar cry even harder.

    Don't step on jayman's moment!

To contribute something of substance, I like Isbell quite a bit, he's not an artist in my regular rotation but whenever I find my way to listening to him I always enjoy it.

Excited for the new album! Going to be a big year for him--co-RSD Ambassador, RSD Release, New Album, I believe a Southeastern 10 year anniversary live album is in the works too! We go to one of the Ryman shows every year.

As I just posted in the Goose thread, Jason is an artist that took me way too long to fully warm up to, but the Reunions album fully pulled me in and got me listening again to his older albums (most of which I had digitally, but weren't in regular rotation).

Brilliant writer, stellar guitarist, love his voice despite the twang (his seems natural as opposed to the manufactured bro-country tripe), and the band is kick ass. Been trying to catch him headline a show since 2021 and hoping to catch him at Wolf Trap this summer.

He's still hit and miss for me. His good songs are REALLY good, I just don't put him up there with the greats yet as I like about 2 songs on every album. The rest are kind of middle of the road, or I get a sense he's trying too hard to say something important.

Haven't seen him live either so need to do that sometime for sure.

I could see that on his pre-Southeastern albums, but Southeastern, Something More Than Free, and The Nashville Sound is a hell of an album run for him. Reunions and GA Blue had a few songs that I skip past, but for the most part, most of what he puts out are very solid. I'd put him in my top 3 favorite artists now.

I've spent a lot of time in those albums, and just find them, in my opinion to not be 10/10 amazing. There are 2 to 3 10/10 songs per album, and the rest I would give 6 or 7/10 to. Still a good run of songs for sure.

Reunions was good but it pales in comparison to the 3 album run. The Georgia album didn't do much for me. I've listened twice and just can't get into it.
