I think I'm sitting Lawn for either this show or Irvine. It's certainly something up to God at this point.

Ventured out from the East Coast to visit a friend and lined up perfectly with this show! Will be my first show outside of the Northeast. Can't wait!

Trying to lineup a ride share or group taxi from Clairmont or downtown area. Anyone interested in coordinating something?

I'll be happy to do some research and set it up.

I usually get there around 2ish. Grant you I go to the parking lot on the s/e side of the venue so it is never a problem getting in there.

My buddy and I will be heading from Phoenix for the CV/Irvine shows. Any advise for tailgating without a vehicle? We're staying a couple miles away from the venue and won't be driving to/from the show and will be cabbing it.

All this talk about a party bus sounds so much better. Omar just got back to me and said they don't have any openings. Anyone else know of party busses between Gaslamp and Sleep Train? I can cancel my hotel up until Midnight so I'd need to find something quick!

Found this if anyone is interested: http://xperiencetransportation.com/p...ptember-5-2014

They would love to have their own bus coming from Downtown and they need 12 to do it. Right now there are 4 people booked and they'd have to head up to Pacific Beach after the downtown pickup and then head to Sleep Train. I am a little worried as I don't think we'd make it in time for the start of D&T.

PB & Downtown are only about a 5 or 10 minute drive from each other. Depending on when the pick-ups are you should be fine. This is also probably cheaper than a cab would cost.

And just an FYI...It's not just D&T opening. It's a full band acoustic set and it's fantastic so you don't want to miss it

Re: ***RUN FOR THE BORDER!! - Official Chula 2014 Thread***

Hey party people, have a great show. Wanted to drop in and offer some tips from someone that has done a show or two here. This show is on a Friday, and traffic will be a bitch. Went to every Chula show from 1999-2011, and sat in some brutal traffic coming down from Orange County. The locals in the thread can verify this, but from my past experience, give yourself time to get down there if you are not already staying over from Thursday night. Adam has a great back route that he has shared in past years to get people around having to come in on Main St. off the freeway.

Also getting to the venue early will allow you to, in theory, pick what lot you want to park in. The later you show up, the worse your options. If you end up to the lot below or to the west (towards the water park) of the venue, expect a pretty long wait to get out. The tailgate spot that Adam mentioned is in the lot above the venue. Nice dirt lot, port-o-potties if needed too. Easy access cross the street to the gates to get in. Also the tour buses cruise right past the upper dirt lot on the way out. So if you make it back to your car after the show, you may catch a Carter wave on their way north to Irvine.

Miss this venue, was always my hope they would ditch Irvine/LA and give Chula 2 nights. Should be a lovely summer night under the stars for some great music.

Here is the back way in to help you not get caught in all that traffic. Share it with who you want but also try to keep it on the d/l. I have the starting point as the GasLamp district but the key is to come down the 5 and avoid the 805 if at all possible. We will be tailgating in that first lot that you come to if you come in this way. Hang a left into the venue and then another left into that first lot. And the first left after you get into the lot should take you down to where we tailgate. Look forward to seeing y'all and meeting y'all.

Called and most likely will be doing this from Downtown with a friend and I. Hope to see some fellow Ants on the way there!

No merch stands outside the gates. At least there hasn't been in years past.

Guys I have a couple questions on where to park - above or below the venue as I've seen both (see map photo from old Chula thread). Which freeway to take (using back way in) - as I've seen conflicting posts on avoiding the 5 or 805.

Also, where is the VIP parking. I think it's on the East side but not sure.

Coming from the 805 (most traffic so try to avoid) will bring you in closest to the green section. VIP is the yellow section. Coming in from the "back way" brings you in right by the red section and is the dirt lot where a lot of Ants are usually tailgating in the corner little blue section.

When leaving the show they direct all traffic towards the 805 and it's a cluster so I always try to park in the Red or VIP and exit the "back way".

    Just my .02

Edit: and it never hurts to plan on hanging in the lots after the show for a few. It really is a cluster as soon as the show is over.

Love to see the map is alive and well. Made that map 2007-08. I always tried to park in the red lot (bottom of the map) if at all possible. The VIP lot is to the left (big yellow patch) of the venue, paved lot, easy to get in and out of.

Adam, Becky or another local will be better equipped to give direction what freeways to take these days.

In the past it was the big yellow patch on the map in the link.

We used to post-tailgate all the time in Chula. It was good to hang out, wait for the tour buses to go by, then get some food and talk about the show before heading out.

This would be the best route for the least amount of traffic for those coming from the north...

Hello all. My first time to Chula and pretty excited.

Staying in the gaslamp district and planning on taking the back way. Can't tailgate this year, so curious when I should leave to be able to not be too rushed but also not sitting in our seats for hours waiting. Google says 35 minute drive, but sounds like that's wishful thinking.... Any ideas from the locals?

    Thanks!
