Dallas/Woodlands Run 2015

After watching the Austin setlist, I didn't have much hope going into Dallas & The Woodlands shows. I booked 8 shows for the summer and it worried me that Austin would set the tone for the rest of the summer. However, I was pleasantly surprised.

Dallas 5/15/15

The acoustic set was fantastic. The only song that I considered a “dud” was Gravedigger, and even that sounded good in the acoustic set. Old Dirt Hill was a mellow opener. SMTS>ATSB>TM as a closer was fantastic, the crowd absolutely loved it.

Opening the electric with Minarets was great. Even with the duds (Seven, If Only, Squirm and Jimi Thing) the rest of the set was top notch.

For the entire show - only 5 of the 22 songs played I don’t really care to hear live, but I’m okay with that. The rest of the setlist more than made up for it. I haven’t heard Best of What’s Around since 2011 so it was amazing to hear that in the encore. It sounded great and the crowd went nuts.

Woodlands 5/16/15

The Woodlands acoustic set opened with a Dave solo Beach Ball and from then on the rest of the acoustic set was perfect - not a dud in sight.

The electric set opened with Warehouse>Dancing Nancies, which was backward fro the usual but still sounded just fine. There was a mellow lull from Proudest Monkey to Digging A Ditch but the crowd was really feeling it and with the great weather it felt just fine. The inevitable happened and Shake Meh, Cornbread and You & Meh were broken out and Sister reared it’s ugly head in the encore, but even with those 4 duds, the other 20 songs more than made up for it. Ants>Halloween was on fire and the crowd was singing and dancing and the environment was just electric!

Other notes:
At both of these shows - Boyd sounded great, he was playing his heart out, smiling, and engaging the fans - really showing how much he loves what he does.

I usually complain about setlists, but these two shows showed that the band can please the casual/hardcore fans and the new/old fans. A great mix of most of the catalog, very few duds. The lows very few and the highs were many. It was a great weekend and the first time I've ever walked away from both Texas shows completely satisfied.

Good review. I'm glad to hear Boyd was back to form. Disagree with you on Squirm and Jimi being "duds", though (unless we're really stretching the definition of the word "dud".)

Yeah probably not the best word for them - just songs I don't really care to hear live anymore.

Yeah...it was pretty awesome. I lost my shit when they went Warehouse -> Nancies...thought after hearing Warehouse open we weren't going to get Nancies but they went straight into it. Really good feeling...

I completely agree with your notes about Boyd. He tore LIOG up in Dallas. That was the happiest moment I've been a part of in a long time.

I was only at the Dallas show, but I was completely satisfied.

Black and Blue Birds started to click with me that night and now I can't stop listening to it.

I enjoyed Austin, and then I was blown away in Dallas! (And I was jealous after Houston.) I felt like Boyd was giving us so much of himself, that he more than made up for last year's bow drops. And then Tim followed Boyd on LIOG, and took it to another level! The band was on fire, people around me were really cool, Minarets! I can't wait for the tape to surface. I read that it will be ready "soon." I wonder if the person working on it is just really busy, or if it's something else? Perhaps a DVD??

I'm hoping I'm not the only one who can avoid them - I would hate for others who didn't wanna see them to be stuck with them this year. Surely they won't be at every stop

But yeah, looking back I'm glad I got those two shows before they came on board for the summer.
