Hahah, I'm heading out to college this fall as well. Just got a Gorge Caravan N3 poster, and this thread came in handy today! Ended up with a Target frame.

But after thinking of how to hang it (since I can't put holes in the wall either), I figured that the 3M Command hooks/hangers are my best bet. Some of them can hold the weight, and they are easy to install and remove.

    That looks great!!!

We have always gone with the custom framing as well for our posters and have them displayed in our bar/bonus room. Had to do it up since Dave signed a couple of them to my wife and I during a M&G. ;-)

That sounds good. I have a Jones Beach N2 from this summer, and a MSG N1 from last fall... not sure which to bring. And an awesome Phish one from July 4th this summer. Thanks

I waited til Michael's had a sale, I think it was 60% off. I got 6 posters done and it cost me close to 400, not too bad because they look great. I only get posters to the different venues I have been, not every show, so for people that have close to 20-30 posters I probably wouldn't go the Michael's route.

That's what I do. The frames come out to 11 bucks or so and they look great. There's a pewter looking frame that is sometimes on sale, and those look freaking awesome. Otherwise, the plain black ones aren't bad either.

you could also go to michaels and pick up a frame ($50-70), mat ($8), and spray glue ($8) and do it yourself. I did that for my N2 citi field poster and included the ticket and it looks great. I put it together myself and it took all in all about 3 weeks, if your including the time you have to wait for the poster to flatten out b/c its been in storage tubes since the damn show.

don't... things get broken/stolen in the dorm rooms all the time, i never brought anything i loved that couldn't easily be replaced.

    Re: framing DMB posters

    Question:

I have many DMB posters that I am contemplating selling. All of them are framed and some are customed framed through Michael's. When people sell their posters do they usually sell them unframed or with the frames?? I'm open to either...but would prefer to get rid of the frame as well.

Also, if anyone is interested in any of my posters this is what I have:
    Gorge N1 2007
    Omaha 2008
    Las Vegas Jack 2009
Deer Creek N1 and N2 2009 (custom framed)
    Des Moines Principal Park 2009
    Alpine Valley N1 and N2 2010
St. Paul Xcel Energy Center 2010
Chicago Caravan Three Day poster 2011

I have a poster from the River's Edge Festival in St. Paul and both nights of Alpine 2012 that are not framed and still in the tubes. Open to selling those as well....

email me at megandardis@hotmail.com if interested

    Re: framing DMB posters

I know I'm reviving an old thread here, but I just wanted to get some feedback on my framing. I didn't want to pay an arm and a leg for custom framing so I got the mat online and got the frame at Jo Ann Fabrics. I found a company that did the mat cutting for you for a reasonable price and they did a great job! I decided after the fact to add my ticket so it's just taped onto the matting with the same acid free tape I used for the poster. Sorry for the poor lighting, but I think you get the picture.

Thanks, and I agree about the piano lol. If I could do it over again, I would've asked them for a cut out for the ticket and maybe to offset the top and bottom margins with the ticket hole. The site said to call them for special requests so I'll keep that in mind for next time. This was my first DMB show, so I'm hoping to start a nice collection.

Here's the site for the mats if anyone's interested.

Here is the 4 posters I have done double matted at Michaels. Like other have said wait for the 60% off and get two done for $200-$250. I have more i need to get done as well but might go the cheap route with Target.

Love that N2 C'Ville. The matting looks really good with it.

For some reason I don't think I've seen the WPB posters before. Really like those too! Nice job on the framing.

Check craigslist for a "flat file", always some up for less than $100 from some architect or something they stored blueprints in...

As for framing, I have all mine in matching frames from AC Moore (Life's Greatest Moments poster frames)...as for the glass I don't really care if they turn yellow because I'm never selling them, they're all mementos of shows I've been to.

My only one that has UV protective glass is my SPAC 06 kool aid man. Eventually I want to have it professionally done with a double matte, black on lime green

Finally getting around to framing some of my posters and I was able to get both of these frames through Americanframe.com. I spent $138 for both of them which includes the UV Non-glare acrylic glazing. I dropped off my 7/1/16 poster at Michael's on Sunday because I wanted custom matting to help match the green and orange colors in the poster and that ended up being $171 after 60%, 20%, and 15% discounts. Americanframe.com is definitely the way to go if you don't need matting.

I like to use this website for frames: https://www.hollywoodposterframes.com/

UV filtered plexiglass and you can upgrade to acid-free backing for a little more. I typically get the multipacks, so it comes out to less than $50 a frame. I've never had an issue with them, pretty solid customer service too.

    Very Nice

Same thing, wait for a 75-80% off sale at Michaels and do a couple at a time.
