Sure, it's poppy, and for some folks it's less cool to like accessible music, but it's light, fun, entertaining stuff. But different strokes, I guess.

OP, like everyone's said, check out Java Joe's, Waiting For My Rocket to Come, We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things, and Mr. A-Z has some solid stuff on it as well. Hope you enjoy it.
explain please?

we're on a dave matthews band message board, and DMB is one of the most accessible bands around right now, so i don't follow

A lot of people, especially in nDMBc rarely even listen to DMB anymore. He's saying that many people frown upon acts that are "Pop".

That being said, I enjoy Mraz. He's got some great songs.

    ...ok?

why shouldn't they? i don't particularly like pop music. i like more folky rock music and blues.

i frown on acts that are heavy metal because i don't like heavy metal, same concept.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear...he's saying that music is frowned upon here simply because it is popular, not necessarily due to the quality of the music. Agree or disagree, I think that is the point he was trying to get across.

    aah, gotcha,

yeah there certainly are people that have that pitchfork mentality where you build up a band and then as soon as they get "big" rag on them for selling out

Yeah, that's exactly what I meant. It's cool to not like an artist/band for reasons of personal taste, but it's unfortunate to not give someone a reasonable chance because a bunch of other folks like them.

Also thanks for the help clarifying, Beefsteak.

I used to like him significantly more than i do now. His live show used to be pretty impressive, both when he was acoustic and when he had a full band with the lead guitarist. Now, without that guitarist and with the cheesy horn line, not so much. But I still enjoy some his old stuff.

That hornline can still put down some nice licks. It is a little cheesy at times, but live I like the horn section a lot.

good stuff. this guy, toca and ian had to much potential...the pop stuff has really been unfortunate, but they gotta make the buck. when people ask me about him or say he sucks my response is "have you listened to Java Joes?"

basically up until about 2005 Mraz was legit. I still think he's really talented, but you have to see/hear him in an intimate venue for it to be appropriate. his 2004? curbside prophet tour was awesome. if you can catch him with Bushwalla, they are hilarious together on stage.

more recent, but shows used to be like this (in comparison to horns and big stages...i miss the scatting) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgfy0...eature=related

    New song:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjP7V...layer_embedded

Terribly plain, but I can't stop singing it. His melodies combined with his chord structures makes his music so hard for me to dislike no matter how cheesy it may be.

I'm a few days late, but did anyone go to the NYC shows last week? I went to the Friday night show at Carnegie Hall and it was fucking amazing. Hands down the best acoustic show I've ever seen. He is so amazingly talented it's not even funny. The guy consistently sounds autotuned, I don't think there was a single wrong note all night! He and Toca played for almost 3 hours, some old, some new, some unreleased. I ended up finding great tickets on craigslist for face value while searching for D and T Wallingford tickets. I'm extremely happy I went the Mraz route over D and T

I am extremely jealous of you. Really wanted to go to these shows but when tickets went on sale I didn't know I would be living in NY by the time the shows came around, and I couldn't get off for work hah. But yeah you got to see some good stuff. He just played in San Diego and it looks like it is being recorded for a video release

So what does everyone think about I Won't Give Up? It's pretty radio, but even so it's fucking beautiful and catchy. I really can't bring myself to dislike anything this guy does. Also, I'm loving this quote, although I loved the feel of We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things:

    Quote:
The guitar ballad is in line with how Mraz has described the sound of his still-untitled fourth album, due out in the top half of 2012. Last month, the pop singer told Billboard.com that the new album "has less horns -- it's got more piano and guitar textures. A lot more vocal landscapes… That, to me, has always been my favorite part of making music; the singing and what voices can do and the voices singing in harmony." At the time, Mraz said that the new full-length was "all but one song" away from completion.
If I Won't Give Up and the stuff he played on the acoustic tour is any indication of what this album will be like, it's going to be amazing.

Listen with some good headphones. So many intricacies in the harmonies and voicing of the instruments that I didn't hear on first listen. The acoustic version he and Toca did during the acoustic tour was phenomenal.

A little Java Joe's 'Unfold' to ease into the morning.

I have a big soft spot for 'After an Afternoon' and 'Sleeping to Dream'.

He said they had to go back and re-record one of the songs as acoustic because he thought it worked better that way after the acoustic tour... I really REALLY hope it's 93 Million Miles.
