I'm a fan of sweet. Something about it just feels awesome. I'm really looking forward to it exploding at Alpine.

If Only got the best fan reaction over the weekend at SPAC. It was the only one out of the four that I actually saw people get excited for and sing along to. Song is fun and catchy as hell. It's simple and it accomplishes what it sets out to do. Did not mind hearing this at all this past weekend. Mercy's outro just does not go anywhere, Sweet is extremely awkward with the solo/full band arrangement and overly brief outro, and Gaucho, which is clearly the strongest of the four in terms of composition suffered from horrible placement E1 on N2 and desperately needs a powerful segue (The stone) to get people into the song. Granted, the dave solo 40 would have gotten the crowd pumped up for literally anything that followed, but the crowd definitely seemed the most responsive to If Only out of the four played this weekend.

I don't usually ball-wash this band, but I really cannot get enough of If Only. I've played it on guitar, i've played it on piano, i sang along with the chicks next to me at spac...Just a solid, catchy tune. Is it the fucking love child of Spoon and Dreaming Tree? Fuck no. I love those songs, but goddamn i am ready for a refreshing, new light-hearted song that isn't freaking cornbread. The band's gonna play shit like this whether we like it or not, and they could do a lot worse than If Only.

I'm with you 100%. The songs I usually gravitate to would usually have me disliking If Only strongly, but I dig it. A lot.

Mercy a long way out in front for mine - I think it has potential to grow and grow
Sweet and If Only are tough to split
Not a big fan of Gaucho, maybe a 5/10 for me

I love this song

If Only is definitely my current favorite, followed closely by Mercy.

In my opinion:

Gaucho
Mercy
Sweet
If Only

I adore the first two. I tolerate "Sweet". I detest "If Only". It reminds me of "Angel".

That being said, I am very glad people like the songs I don't.

Gaucho is still my favorite by a good margin. Then Sweet slightly edges Mercy. If Only brings up the rear.

For comparison, Gaucho would be my 3rd or 4th favorite if on BW. Sweet, Mercy, and If Only would be BW middle-of-the-pack. I want to like the new ones more, but it's not happening yet. Though I probably like BW more than most, so not as negative as it may sound.

Mercy is the clear winner for me. it's become such a great song live. If Only is extremely boring, Sweet should have stayed solo, and Gaucho isn't what it could be live but still a good song.

If only is one of those songs that you have to listen to over and over for it to sound good. I think people will start liking at some point.

looking forward to hearing the album tracks and what they turn them into live after the album comes out. You know the crowd will prob sing the kids part on Gaucho in the end eventually.

Gaucho is the best musically, it feels the most full. As that song develops I can see it becoming a pretty good jam live.

That is an excellent point. I also like Dave's voice on these two more than sweet and gaucho. Actually, I like Dave's voice in If Only more than I like his voice in most of BW

so this is a pretty nice split of opinions on these songs, which i think is GOOD. Think it goes with lillywhite tweeted awhile ago that all fans will be pleased with this album. But also only heard one studio version.

Sweet, is a top 20 song for me. love it so much. Mercy is really great too. And i enjoy both of the other 2 songs as well. But Sweet and Mercy are legit.
