Re: *** Tough Thursday Trivia - February Edition ***

you guys were not prepared for this. Obviously.

    here's the answers

    TTT One Shots

    1. Ernst Vom Rath's murder directly led to which infamous event? Krystallnatch. Vom Rath was gay and may have been killed by a former lover.

    2. German John Rabe facilitated the rescue of citizens of which city during WWII?
Nanking. He saved thousands of people from advancing Japanese forces.

    3. What famous book had 3 original printings, with the original 1818 printing being by anonymous, with a forward by a famous poet?
Frankenstein. Mary Shelley's husband Percy Bysshe wrote the forward.

    4. "The People Of The South Wind" is a literal translation into English of the names claimed by which 2 US States?
Kansas and Arkansas. Neither is probably exactly correct.

    5. What Latin word - common in church-speak - literally means eyelash to eyelash?
Reconciliation. Thin hair to thin hair is probably more accurate.

    6. The murder of First Lieutenant Robert Paz facilitated which US military action?
Panama. It was from his murder that George Bush ordered forces to invade.

    7. Who was the first Roman Emperor to travel to Great Britain?
Hadrian. That's why they named the wall for him.

    8. The Mantell incident is a plane crash that was allegedly caused by what? UFO. He lost altitude climbing chasing after a flying saucer and crashed.

    9. What infamous British Isle King traveled to Rome to meet the Pope in the 10th Century?
Macbeth. Yes, he was a real king. And no, he wasn't as bad as Shakespeare made him out to be.

    10. Who did Oliver Sipple save from an Assassination attempt in the 1970's? Gerald Ford. A landmark court decision on public vs private life resulted from the case, as Sipple didn't want the publicity mainly because he was gay and his family didn't know. The national media outed him.

    11. Which famous world leader received the US Congressional Medal of Freedom & Lenin medal of order?
Mandela. People forget he was a member of the South African Communist party

    12. Who was Bishop Judah Kyriakos great grandfather's brother, according to documents?
Jesus. To Ancient people, the fact that Jesus had brothers wasn't a big deal and fairly common knowledge

    13. Yvonne Amache Davis is a widow of 2 men who belong in what exclusive award winning club?
Heisman winners. She outlived both her husbands

    14. What was the first Christmas Carol to mention Santa Claus?
Up on the house top. Written in the mid 1850's.

    15. What book was first burned publicly in Bolton, England in December 1988?
Satanic Verses. Samon Rusdie's controversial book dealing with Islam

    16. Who released the 1970's hit album Tea for the Tillerman?
    Cat Stevens.

    17. Which terrorist organization murdered Paul A. Bloomquist in the 1970's?
Baader-Meindorf/Red Army Faction. They were a left-wing group based in West Germany

    18. Which government agency created the controversial animation video that depicted what allegedly happened to TWA Flight 800?
The CIA. That didn't help people who thought the verdict was implausible.

    19. Kaka is the old Norse word for what popular food today?
Cake. It was more of a shortbread originally.

    20. Carol Channing was the first celebrity to perform at what yearly event?
The Super Bowl halftime. She actually preformed twice

    21. Which fast food restaurant was the first to include a handicapped person to their kids meal promotional packaging?
Burger King. One of the kids was in a wheelchair

    22. What guitar playing rocker was born Steven Lento?
Little Stevie Van Zandt. He took his step-father's name; his birth father was Italian.

    23. Which European country calls itself Suomi in it's native tongue?
Finland. Finnish is closer to Russian, whereas Norway and Sweden are Germanic languages.

    24. Who was the last King of England born in what is now France?
Henry II. He was part of the Normandy line of kings

    25. The Epiphany Rising was a turn of the 15th century plot to depose which English king?
Henry IV. It was after Henry IV deposed Richard II to take the crown under dubious circumstances. But he put the threat down and remained King.

"People of the South Wind" is the translation of which US state?
    Arkansas

What are the chances we can convince Jake to bring Tough Trivia Thursday back? We do have at least 9 months (or longer) until full band shows, so what better time then now to bring back a classic.

    sorry.
Thanks for the response, Jake. For some reason this popped in my head last night, so figured it was worth a shot. I would ask Joe M. to step up and take over, but between ironing his clothes and doing his hair, he doesn't have the time either.
