My Poetry Inspired by Music (With What Songs Inspired What)
Eastern Melodies (Assorted Works by Anoushka Shankar)
The Sitar sings
like a dancing melody.
The Tabla growls
like a starving dog.
The Harmonium drones
like an echoed scream.
All together,
splendid dreams.
Gymnopedie (Gymnopedie by Erik Satie)
Gliding across sunsets
we crash into the moon.
Voodoo Woman (Voodoo Woman by Susan Tedeschi)
Dressed in black,
she commands attention.
As she walks with purpose,
jealous eyes question.
Without a care,
she prevails.
Hell (Sarabandes by Erik Satie)
As black curtains close
around his corpse,
fears consume
and fill him
with the devil’s hate.
Thanksgiving Celebrations (Parade by Erik Satie)
Giant colored balloons
march along Central Park West.
Melodies fill the air
as we celebrate America.
At Every Corner (Assorted Works by Bone Thugs)
An officer at every corner,
gunning down another innocent man.
A drug deal at every corner,
a glimpse of hope in a dark world.
Betrayal at every corner,
a lifetime of mistrust.
Mahler’s Melodies (Symphonies 2 and 9)
The strings vibrate
as the notes drift like snow.
The horns bellow
creating thunder.
Echoing throughout halls,
Mahler’s Symphonies soar.
Beethoven’s Eroica (Beethoven's Eroica)
A thunderous hell
pounds upon his aching ears.
Fragile tears
flow gently from his eyes.
Exuberant feelings
overwhelm and saturate his confidence.
A symphony for Kings,
The Eroica, Symphony 3 by Beethoven.
