I also hit up the Yard House next to Staples Center (Muse concert!) where they have about 200 beers on tap. I finally tasted two of my favorite IPAs side by side for the first time, Green Flash West Coast IPA vs. Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA. The West Coast was much better. Much more aroma, a little less malt, truly a phenomenal IPA. The Racer 5, while still great, is a little heavier on the malts, and more bitter than aromatic on the hops.

Next I'll have to try West Coast vs. Sculpin back to back. I think it's going to be very very close, they're pretty similar beers.
I have a kegerator at home and got a 1/6 barrell (5 gallon) keg of Stone Smoked Porter last winter. It's delicious.

    My favorites from Stone are:

    1. Smoked Porter
    2. Arogant Bastard/Oaked Arogant Bastard (depending on my mood)
    3. Ruination IPA
    4. Sublimely Self Righteous Ale

I love pretty much everything there. My faves I guess are Sublimely Self Righteous Ale (I homebrew a mean version of this), Ruination IPA, Cali-Belgique IPA, and the Bastard.

Yes, it's awesome. If you check out the growler fill schedule sometimes they'll break out previous years. Last time I was there they were pouring both 2009 and 2008 vintages. They let me taste both (I preferred the 2008 as it was smoother) then I filled er up.

Nice. I have a friend who got into home brewing about a year ago. I've helped him brew his last few batches. He's slowly been upgrading his brewing setup. The last 3 beers we did were an all grain recipe. He has a recipe for an Arogant Bastard clone so I think we're gonna try that out pretty soon. Although I think we're gonna brew a pumpkin ale in the next week or 2 to have it ready for thanksgiving. Then we were talking about doing a porter for winter (not that we get much of a winter in socal, lol). So I'm not sure when we'll get to the Bastard clone.

Downing the Abita SOS Save Our Shore Pilsner. Pretty good, full for a pilsner, citrus notes, and a hint of hops on the finish. Plus 75 cents of the bomber goes to Gulf Coast relief efforts, so it's charitable. Sweet.

Yep. Also, I'm not sure how widespread Total Wine is, but they have it for $8.99.

Cool, I've been brewing all grain for a little over a year now myself. Very fun hobby. Once you figure out what recipe you're using for the Arrogant Bastard I'd love to hear it. All of the recipes I've found are extremely simple (2 row, Crystal 120, Chinook hops) but I haven't had a chance to brew it yet and see how close it comes.

Had Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale for the first time last night (and another tonight). It's not bad...not great either. Way strong cinnamon flavor which kind of leaves a nice taste but is also a bit too dominant. I wish it had a higher ABV, it tastes a little light.

I haven't had the pumpking yet. I'll have it in a couple weeks. But ST stuff has generally let me down.

I haven't had the pumpking yet. I'll have it in a couple weeks. But ST stuff has generally let me down.
I would agree for the most part, not a huge fan of the pumking, its good but nothing really special to me. I want to try their creme brulee imperial milk stout tho to see what it's like
