I've never been into the Fantastic Four. They just don't do anything for me. This movie doesn't really look that great to me. I probably will skip it unless it comes up on Netflix and I'm bored out of my mind.

Some hated it, but the Fantastic Four movie from a few years back wasn't that bad. In my opinion, that's the closest incarnation to the comic book Fantastic Four we've seen on screen. It was by no means perfect, but is still an enjoyable film.

As you can tell from my icon image, I am huge fan of the Fan 4. This movie looks like it is following more along the lines of the Ultimate Fantastic Four and not the true Fantastic Four. As a lifelong fan of the Fantastic Four, I will be seeing this movie on opening night, but I do not have high hopes for it being astounding. Then again, I thought Guardians was going to stink and I loved it!

It's the opposite problem. Marvel doesn't do that, but other studios that own rights to Marvel properties have to keep rebooting (because if they don't then the rights revert to Marvel). That's why all the Spiderman and Fantastic Four movies that look like nobody wanted to make them in the first place.

Chiklis was great in F4 05. Aside from that, F4 15 looks better in every way.

Yea, was actually just having this convo the other day with my TV writer/comic fanboy friend. What he said to me was:

"When Marvel was near bankrupt in the early 90s, the sold off the film rights in perpetuity for all of their characters. As long as a studio made a film every 10 years they retained the rights. Fox had X-Men and F4, other studios had others but they lapsed. Fox still controls anything X-Men or mutant related, hence why in the comics Magneto was suddenly revealed to not actually be Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch's father; they are inhumans."

see the funny thing is, now granted I'm not a true comics reader, but I'd at least been moderately interested going by the trailers so far, I didn't at all have this completely fatalistic view from minute one that it was going to suck out loud (even though I've still never seen all of "Chronicle", its first 20 minutes or so did very little to impress me). But the way Fox has been treating this thing over the last week or so, makes ZERO sense to me. You're only hurting yourselves that much more by having NOBODY AT ALL get to see it til like the day before early release. In today's world, you know that only works to create majorly negative buzz around the thing, when people have nothing but their already worried preconceptions to go on. I'm surprised they didn't at least try to let it have a decent sized opening weekend, even if it gets hammered after that. I honestly thought it still might be alright even after looking at that 4 minute trailer from today, even if that did show a bit too much.

but even if this thing bombs to the point where Marvel does gain back control, I gotta think it wouldn't be until the middle of Phase 4 at the VERY least where we'd potentially see the Fantastic Four integrated into the MCU.

See my post above, re your last paragraph. If this version bombs, they could wait another decade before they have to make another movie to retain the rights.

Looks like you were right, Jake. I was cautiously optimistic, but this thing appears to have been doomed from the start. Like Junior said, it's never a good sign when they haven't even let the actors seen the movie prior to the premiere. It comes across as giving them plausible deniability when they're asked whether it's any good during their media tour.

Such a shame. I love Fantastic Four, but whether it's 1994 or 2015 they just can't seem to get it right.

I hope they never use them in the current MCU. The Fantastic 4 just come off as too cheesy to me. Not a fan of them at all. Although, if anyone could get me to like them it would be Marvel I suppose.

I think they're only cheesy because they are always cast as like young heartthrobs. Way back in the day, I liked watching their cartoon just as much as X-Men, Spiderman, Iron Man, etc. But the movies have always seemed to be marketed as teen movies, closer to a Twilight idea than an Avengers idea, if that makes sense.

I've never liked FF. They've never done anything for me. The cartoons, the movies, none of them did anything for me. I'm not certain there's a market for the FF anymore.

I'd rather not even give them back to marvel and have to deal with another origin story for people we've seen before. The problem is Marvel doesn't control any mutants, so they'd have to dig deeper to get new, good characters, but it can be done. They've got plenty of non-mutant heros/villians.

although, the first line from that top review does kind of crack me up. "This doesn't feel like a movie directed by Josh Trank"... the dude had exactly one feature film under his belt! I don't think he'd exactly "established his style" in the movie world just yet
