Even if they have gotten a play or two in the past few years, the point is that they don't get regular plays. There are certain songs that might get brought back for 5-6 plays, then shelved again for years. Or they might pop up once or twice per tour. Most of those songs happen to be some of the bands best songs.

Meanwhile, SMLAM, Y&M, BBN, Cornbread, etc. get consistent plays every year. That is where the frustration lies

Ok. Not sure if you meant in your OP 2010 (Last, Sweet Up & Down & The Last Stop were in 2010)? But those songs I listed and you bolded haven't been played since 2013/out of rotation since 2013.

Dreaming Tree would cause 15 minutes of boredom for 90 percent of the concertgoers...Im playing devils advocate obviously, but I don't fault the band as much as people do around here

Yeah, that's the reason they don't play Dreaming Tree. Because it causes boredom for 90% of the people there.

And that's why Take Me to Tomorrow is played so much, because that really gets the crowd going right?

DS was pretty much the run away favorite and song that had everyone talking on here when AFTW came out.

DS = most overrated song in DMB's catalog, IMO (of course).

Love Drunken Soldier, the segue into Pink Floyd w/the Ladies was something I had thought about too. It's actually seems like such an obvious thing to do due to that 'Pink Floyd' section in the middle of DS, and the fact they've had the Ladies on DS in the past. That would be the only thing I'd actually enjoy the Ladies on at this point.

anything has always been on the table. the OSW intro came back after 7 years, but then 2 plays later and it was gone again and hasnt been heard in nearly 5 years again. could they bust it out again at SPAC this weekend? sure, but lets be honest here, theres about a 0.0001% chance of that actually happening. the planets have to align again like they did in 2010.

To say that almost all the catalog has been played in the last five years doesn't mean everything is "on the table". You can always catch lightning in a bottle, but that's statistically irrelevant.

I mean Dave has already said he doesn't really "like" the hardcore fans and is gunning for the new fans. It makes sense why the setlist appeal to them instead of the new fans. He also knows that most hardcore fans are going to be at the multi-night stands (SPAC, Alpine, WPB, Gorge) so he plays to them a little more at those stops. Sadly enough, when you lower your expectations for shows, things are a lot more fun.

I don't get the lower your expectation argument. Expectations, at least most of them from what I can tell, are not unreasonable or absurd, but Dave seems to not be able to find a middle ground in pleasing hardcores and newer fans.

If I go to a steakhouse and spend $100 on a steak, which is known for their delicious steak, and its shit, I'm not going to lower my expectations and just be happy that its edible.

the music is really good, which makes it even worse that the lyrics and melodies are so bad. really like both the intro and the outro. it's just those 4 awful minutes in between the two that ruin the song for me

DT is so easy to play for DaVE, it's kinda redic. Tim would play the fills mostly anyways, so he could just strum chords and pretend that he was playing

I completely agree even though it backtracks on my statement. I think Dave needs to step up his setlist writing game in a huge way. That said, I've accepted it's not going to happen. Dave is old and lazy. At this point if I want to keep seeing the band I'm accepting that I'm not gonna get liberations left and right and walk away saying that was the best DMB show I've ever seen. However, they're still playing a bunch of songs that I really enjoy and don't mind hearing for the 9th or 10th time.

Let's say this steakhouse has been making steak for 20 years. You've been several times. You loved it in 1995, but ever since 2001, you've liked it less and less. Would you still keep paying $100 for the steak in 2015 and then bitch that you didn't like it?

My main issue would be if the steakhouse proves it could still make high quality steaks in 2003, 2004, 2008, 2010, and 2013, and even in it's mediocre years they have days where they make great steaks. It makes you wonder why that steakhouse couldn't make high quality steaks everyday.

    Sounds like 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012, and 2014 were huge MISSED STEAKS.

    Get it?

I was in a bar on the 4th, and a (presumably) homeless African American guy came up to me and asked me if I could buy him a drink. For whatever reason, at that moment, the first verse of the 7/16/04 Crazy Easy popped in my head and I got him a gin & juice (not even lying, that's what he ordered ). Bartender and a couple patrons gave me dirty looks, but I sat there with Wilbur for a little while and talked with him just to keep him company. Probably made his night. So, thank you, Dave for inspiring good things to happen 11 years later.

    Quote:
    Oh said the man
    sittin' at the bar
lookin' rough to the man next to him
Saying, "Brother could you spare a dime?
    Do you have the time?
Maybe you could buy me a drink
    Things ain't rollin' so well..."

    "Oh, get out my face"
you know that's what he said
and he turned his back on the boy, little soul
But don't you know the table could be turned
and he could be the one
    standing there beggin' for work

Full version. There's some great songs in there not included on the standard release. I really enjoy those shows and have been planning to go back and do a full relisten one day soon.

I would go with something else instead. There are some good performances in that box set, but the mix is bad and Dave's vocals are worse. Definitely much better stuff out there to get your hands on before this one

That grace was absolutely insane, and I know everyone says "that was the best crush ever" after every crush, but it totally works as a set closer and blew me away.
