Listening to this now. The jam was good, but the rest of this is a disaster. Ladies don't fit the song at all (like every other song they guest on), and the song is still the piece of shit it was in 2005 with the same terrible lyrics.

today was the first time i actually made It threw a full smooth rider. actually the Fenway version. haha been a fan many years and never actually listened to the song fully. anyway the song actually has some power at the end. probably the best part of the song.
holy shit listening to this version from 2015 and the ladies make it even worse then it was. also what a wast of a warren guest spot. i mean warren sounded good but why waste that on a song like smooth rider. oh well.

Honestly, this song could have been much better received if they had included the band in studio (I think it sounds good with Roi and Boyd), and Dave made it more of a story.
It could've have been a fun little bluesy song, which was out of their style... but it really isn't good on the album. I don't mind it live, because I like the bari solo and trumpet solo. It is also well below the writing skill level of everyone in the band. So it gets a lot of crap. |

I like Smooth Rider fine. I think it's a cool groove. Lyrics are terrible. It was cool with Robert Randolph in 06/07.
I also like I Did It. It's not a DMB song, but 16 years later it has stood the test of time for me. When it comes up on shuffle I don't skip it. Albeit, I don't seek it out to listen to . |
