Absolutely agree...

Sledgehammer def better. BTDH isn't, but that's mainly because Dave doesn't put Byrne's paranoia into the vocals.

DMB's version of Sledgehammer is great but it's not better than the original

I don't think anyone asking for less covers thinks last night wasn't a very good set for 2015 DMB. It was, ,though Friday was just average. One has nothing to do with the other, imo.

As for the LL, it is a fact that the sets are worse with them being there. Last night was a rare exception to that fact.

A good cover is cool in isolation. When they get played in heavy rotation like many of them do it's a problem. New covers should be limited to a tour or two and then retired. Friend of the Devil would have been very cool. Another version of Burning Down the House with The LL and Thank You is not something I want to see. Same with Runnin Down a Dream, Buena, Sweet Emotion, TMTT, Rye Whiskey, Slip Slidin, Sugar Man etc.

Wasn't Buena just a one-off cover? Or did they do it all the Caravan stops?

    EDIT: It was done twice.

This. No cover is better than any top 30-40 originals.

Oh so would I, that kind of goes without saying. But at the same time, I enjoy hearing covers at a show. As someone mentioned earlier, covers have kind of always been part of the DMB experience. Unfortunately currently we have kind of the same situation with their covers as we do the originals - they used to be all hits. Now there's some hits and some misses.

Rarities have bought real estate in so many of your guys' brains its unbelievable. DMB has a ton of quality material. If they went out and played 'the perfect setlist' night in and night out, you guys would be clamoring for the rest of the 100 songs/covers. When songs get rare they are treated like gold.

I loved the set on Saturday night. I didn't pay attention to what was a cover or how often one was played. Seeing Friend of the Devil was a top 3 moment of the weekend for me. I don't care if most would rather see other original songs in it's place. I thought it was special and worked great with Bela. Accept the show for how good it was and don't find yourself trying to play hindsight setlist god after the show...you'll be happier you didn't.

i do agree however, that there's no reason for songs like BDTH to be in heavier rotation than DT, YNK, etc....if they want to pick 4-6 covers per summer and play them, thats great. dont keep playing them year in year out like they've been since 08

Except a bunch of the rarer songs are actually gold, so...

Nobody is complaining about Saturdays set. It looked good. The fact that covers are getting debuted (new and old), and some of DMBs greatest tunes arent, that is what is being talked about.

Saturday's set looked just like the rest of the tour. 10 good songs or so. Rest duds or throw away songs.

I get it. They have a ton of older stuff that would be great if it got played.

With that being said, hasn't this always been the case with this band, and probably most bands with a similar sized catalog?

They play solid stuff and often bring back older stuff, but no matter what they play, someone's always wanting more.

I don't think bitching on here has ever done a damn thing to change anything. Why not just enjoy what was played and keep hope somewhere in the back of your head that maybe a golden oldie will come back.

And if it doesn't...it shouldn't be the first thing people bitch about after a show.

    -Buena was awesome
-Down by the River was my single favorite moment of the Camden weekend
-I would gladly take any Neil Young cover at any show I am at

Only covers I dont like to see are Take me to Tomorrow, and Running Down a Dream (they play it well I just dislike Tom Petty in general)

Yea I agree with most of what's being said here. My original intent with this thread was more aimed towards "Thank You," and "Burning Down The House" I think. It was really amazing to hear "Friend of the Devil," but they easily could have replaced TY and BDTH with originals. I thought the weekend overall was incredible, just the sheer number of covers (6 in two days) struck me as odd.
