Family Guy, by far.

    At their best:

    1. The Simpsons
    2. South Park
    3. Family Guy

And I LOVE all three shows. But The Simpsons absolutely takes the cake.

I'm basing this on the shows in their prime, and therefore The Simpsons win.

Okay I just finished watching the new episode of American Dad -- how many goddamn jokes is Seth McFarlane gonna keep on stealing from The Simpsons between his two shows?? I mean for fucks sake
I've been noticing it on Family Guy for a LONG time now. And don't get me wrong I do get a certain amount of enjoyment from FG, but man alive he just keeps raping and raping.

I think the Simpsons deserves my vote. There's just SO MANY EPISODES and I've laughed to death so many times. Family Guy is great, I love it. So is South Park.

That's why i think this should be further defined.

I have said this here time and time again. Quite simply Family Guy is not around had Simpsons not come before it. And I know there's a huge crowd on these boards for FG (honestly I personally think that's mostly because college aged kids rule this place it seems), and I know the little "asides" in the show (a random clip playing after "oh god, this is worse than that time when...blah blah") are one of the most popular aspects, but that to me mostly says that McFarlane isn't good enough to write a full 22 minutes of narrative material.

I know what you mean, there was one where Peter says "Okay, I challenge you to a race across the globe" that was blatantly blatant.

What was ripped off tonight? I watched it, but don't remember anything other than Peanuts.

I would say Simpsons in their prime but i went with South Park. They do a great job working with current events. Family Guy is funny but its the same joke idea just different theme, "How about the time I..." flashback flip of some funny/ dumb event. South Park did a great job making fun of Family Guy too as well as showing how the Simpsons have covered most ideas in animated comedy.

Well the biggest most obvious one to me was the overly long crash and fall of Stan down all those flights of stairs, that was an exact riff on the classic Homer falling and getting the shit beat out of himself down a bunch of rocks or whatever else. Damn I had another one but now I forget it.

I remember watching a FG ep one night, and I just rolled my eyes when I saw the one joke. Brian was telling Peter he'd become so fat that he had his own orbit, and so Brian tossed a couple things up (including the TV) that started rotating in a circle around Peter's belly, and Peter would giggle when the TV was right in front of him, but as soon as it dissappeared from his sight he got all sad like "aww", and then just repeat that like 5 times. That's a dead ripoff of a Homer moment, switching between happiness and sadness so quickly and repeatedly.

I watch and like them all, but The Simpsons and South Park are leagues ahead of Family Guy. The Simpsons and South Park are my favorite animated shows ever, and I could probably name at least 5 more ahead of Family Guy

South Park because it is quick to reply to things happening in the world. Like the PSP / Constantine episode. So funny. The Katrina-related one was good too.

Yea South Park & the Simpsons are in a league above Family Guy. The Simpsons have a slight edge because theyve been around forever but South Park is so good with having episodes about what the hot topic or craze is in the world. Family Guy relies on the same few jokes. Constant "Remember the Time" flashback jokes, Peter getting hurt and moaning a few times too many to make it funnier, etc.

I love both shows, but for me, the first ten season of The Simpsons beats any show, ever.

    1. South Park progressivley gets better with every season, while after season 7, the Simpsons started regressing.

    2. South Park can capitalize quickly on current events, due to how easy it is to make the episodes.

    3. South Park can go farther than the Simpsons, mainly due to being on cable.

simpsons may have paved the way for these other shows, but i have to give it to southpark. matt stone and trey parker are incredibly smart writers (the simpsons already did it and goobacks episodes, not to mention cartoon wars). southpark normally touches base on current events

I absolutely love South Park, but I'm going to play devil's advocate to your post.

    1. South Park doesn't get better every season. Most of my favorite seasons were the earlier ones, with 2 and 5 being my favorites.

    2. You're right here, but I've heard that some of the current events episodes are because they are short of ideas and have to meet the deadline. But what they come up with is almost always brilliant.

    3. 'Going farther' doesn't really make a show good. It might make it edgy, but doesn't necessarily mean good. Also, in its day, The Simpsons went very far by network standards, and it was the first cartoon to push the boundary. My parents didn't even like me watching it when I was around 7 or 8, but I watched anyway because I was a hardass.

only 1 of those is an Opinion, the other two dont mean anything when it comes to quality TV shows. sure its nice, but being non-timely and being able to be funny without rude/crude/vulgure comedy is more difficult and a lot funnier.

South Park is a decent second because of its social comentary, however even though i enjoy the writing the Simpsons have done a better job of social comentary than South Park, although it may seem otherwise becuase they are not Timely the simpsons dont focus on single events but genearl social problems and fealings.

The characters are also so much more involved and interesting on the simpsons, while i believe that south park has its moments i dont find myself connecting to these characters. Homer simpson is such an amazing character, put him up against any southpark figure and the complexity of homer simpson and his life and what he stands for is considerable and no southpark character comes close.

While southpark uses its plots and themes to get across the points the simpsons uses deep characters and clever symbolism.

Personally, i think the simpsons is almost as good as it was in its prime right now. The reason people even compare south park (dont even mention Family Guy to me, that show doesnt hold crap) and why people think the simpsons has fallen is becuase they really havent changed to become more obsured like the other shows. they are still very subtle, while other shows dont make you think as much and you "understand" them more easily and therefore think they are being more progressive and socially active.

I enjoy all 3 shows, but the best is easily the simpsons, they are the first and by far the most clever, there is not a single simpsons episode i do not enjoy. i cant say that for the other two.

^Don't want to quote your whole post, but I'm not as big a fan of the Simpsons as I once was because I feel some of the characters have become parodies of themselves. And since they've been on so long, they've run out of great storylines, and instead have episodes that seem completely random. Or at least, more random than earlier seasons. I also think that the writing on earlier seasons was far superior than what is there today, which is why I'm looking forward to the movie.

i agree, its not what it used to be. But i still enjoy it more than South Park or Family Guy. I think the only reason they went a little more random was becuase of the other shows, which is sad.

that recent episode where homer took marge to that island where she had gone during her summers as a kid was pretty good i thought.

some episodes of south park have literally made me cry i was laughing so hard...but some of the episodes of the simpsons are just soooo classic...

family guy isnt even in the same stratosphere IMO, too many repetitive lame ass jokes. my vote goes with south park just because i grew up right around the time it reached it peak, when every week everyone would be talking about it...just such a brilliant show.

I like the Simpsons the most (or at least watch it the most)

But I think they're all good.
