Re: Philadelphia Phillies

okay taking a look at this press conference that Halladay did earlier tonight in preview of the whole alumni weekend... call me crazy, but he sounds like he's high as fuck I mean I'm not saying I think he really might be, but wow maybe this is just what "relaxed" Roy Halladay (finally) sounds like. That he was just THAT focused and intense constantly when he was playing.

So Roy Halladay finally went to the zoo with the creator of the 4-year-old Phillies blog, "I Want to Go to the Zoo with Roy Halladay" aka "Zoo With Roy."

Shame, it's a funny blog and he's been featured everywhere from ESPN, Time, and the news of him going to the zoo with Doc made it onto Deadspin.

granted I don't know how many full season ticket plans the Phils typically sell to the fans every year, but do you reckon there's even as many as 20 people who have literally attended every game this season?

Although, maybe I'm way off on this, and even during the really great years it was a very small group of people who actually went to every single game. that didn't sell or just give off at least a few of the tickets to others.

though with the Phillies, he'll only get 1 save opportunity in that time, so he's only missing 1-2 appearances

I was kinda shocked to realize that at the one point like a week or so ago they'd won 10 of their last 15 (getting to "only" 10 games under 500), and we've got the best pen in all of baseball with like a 2.2 ERA.

It's kinda crazy when you think about it. The bullpen that's been that lights out (granted just since August 1st, but still), we've got a centerfielder with I'd say over a 50% chance of winning the batting title, and a 1st baseman who's still got maaaaybe at least of a little bit of a chance at nabbing the RBI title (based on what I read a few days ago, anyway). and we're still among like the worst 10 teams in the game

oh yea, and with 9, Kyle Kendrick is now the wins leader on our pitching staff

Revere is 9 points away and Howard 12 behind Gonzalez (13 behind Stanton). Neither is happening

^^^ no doubt. Talk about the very definition of hollow numbers.

but I mean, not that I necessarily think he will, but with still 2 weeks to go, 9 points is still fairly doable for Revere.

and btw, part of what's making me actually just maybe believe Papelbon's story, is that I'm thinking he's the kind of guy, he may very well just straight up admitted it that yes, his intention was to "gesture" to the crowd if that's what the deal was (granted this is also pre-suspension)

but I also can't friggin stand Joe West, easily among my least favorite umps. such a fat fuck.

I read earlier today that our assistant general manager has been fired. please for the love of god, tell me this is a precursor to... something else...

I recall reading a statement a few weeks ago from Pat Gillick (after stepping in for Montgomery) that he fully planned on Amaro and Sandberg to be in place as GM and manager for 2015, hoping this was just usual lip service.

^^ thank god, I've always said that guy's stance was so bizarrely over the top.

I've just watched a little bit of the postgame show for the first time in I can't remember when. Ricky Bo was off his leash, he was getting pretty intense by the end there I'm surprised he didn't accidentally lean into a curse.

we were tied for the 6th lowest runs scored in all the majors. And oddly, the team we tied with for that slot (STL at 619) won their division. But they had a differential of plus-16 and ours was minus-68.

one of my rare bits of catching some sports radio earlier in the car, heard there's rumors of one of the other owner guys (Hiddleson?) is trying to use the excuse of David Montgomery's medical leave to push him out the door completely. and, it seems everyone should be prepared for RAJ still being here next year. The way they were talking, it's like Gillick is essentially running things anyway, but with Ruben still being in the mix.
