me and my friends (we're all juniors in high school) play frequently, people usually buying in 20 bucks each so the pots get pretty big.

    what's your wosrt beat ever?

    the flop was 5(c) 6(c) 4(d) 7(c) 6(s)

i had 6-4 in my pocket, making a full house, and i knew my friend caught a club flush

he ended up betting into me taking me all in, naturally i called

i said with pride, i got the boat

he said, i got the straight flush.

i slammed my fist, laughed, and left

    straight flush... :

    WOW!!!
Right before we started playing for money the flop was 4, 5, 6 of clubs and I had the 7, 8 of clubs in my hand. The 'dealer' joked, 'wow I just gave one of you a straight flush'.... : and he wasn't lying!! MAN I wish we had been playing for money!! But our buy-in is only $5... I know I could've pulled a good $6 or $8 into that pot though...

and no worries - such as children - but playing poker wasn't in my books yet, i turned 21 and took a plane to Vegas. Downhill from there. (or wait, uphill).

I'm not sure why it wasn't in my books/sights earlier... but when someone brought it up a few months ago it just clicked with a half dozen ff's at the house.... YEAH!

We have all types playing and THAT makes it really fun. 2 guys are pretty young (relative to the group... 18 & 19). 1 or 2 occasional players are older (late 40's-50) and the other 4 of us are near 30-ish.
The one more frequent older guy LOVES 'picking on' another guy. He tries to draw his money in and taunt him and then he'll fold!! One of the younger guys likes to pretend he is always 1 card away from kicking our a$$es but usually ends up losing with 2 pair!! I could go on... but who'd read it...

and that it is why it is fun - our group is my husband and i (30 ish) and we play with my nephew and his roommates - all college age. I play the dumb blonde (unfortunately, if i am drinking, the alcohol only enhances my sometimes stupidity). But, all in all, we break even over the month.

My wife doesn't play. And she isn't fully aware of how much fun I have playing so when I stroll in an extra hour late... it's a little... :

All in all she's cool cuz I don't get to play too often (esp with class, work, bebe, etc). By this summer I want to 'organize' a bi-weekly or monthly 'regular card night' so it's no surprise to anyone (or their spouse).

Played last night for the first time in two weeks (almost went through withdrawls). Bought in with 10 bucks and came out 55 ahead. Nice supplemental income for a college student. My best hand of the night came when I had pocket jacks and the flop came 7-7-J. The guy to my right had a seven with an ace kicker. I slow played it just calling his bets until the river when I reraised him all in and took it jacks full of sevens.

As pathetic as it sounds a couple of weeks does cause withdrawls. I have two hours off between classes so I downloaded partypoker at the computer lab here on campus. Ahh, hold'em...

Very true, but it was either that or read for class and I'm feeling like procrastinaing today. You know what they say about procrastination. It's like masturbating because in the end you are just fucking yourself.

So one guy (to carry over a misplaced poker conversation from the OST)...
he can be read like a book.... We'll be playing and he'll make some (relatively) huge bet before the flop so many or all will fold. The hand ends and he'll go 'man I just gotta learn how to get more money out of you guys when I have a hand'. Someone will suggest only betting $.20 instead of $.50 (in our nickel, dime, quarter games...) and the very next hand he'll bet $.20. We'll all fold or laugh our asses off at him (for being so obvious) and he'll seriously be like "what?!?!"

    Re: Hold 'em poker

flopped four 3's friday (with pocket 3's), flop was 4-3-3, someone had pocket 5's (which, for once, were overcards) and someone else had a flush draw. i was last to act, and they were betting and calling 10-15 dollars each. i couldn't contain myself i started laughing hystyerically, but they thought i was just being a goof. i ended up making 60 bucks that hand

it was also the last hand of the session

it was also good, saturday i had a big stack, and id call most pre flop raises (if they were reasonable), i called a 3 dollar pre flop raise iwth 5-2 offsuite, got a full hosue to beat someone's pocket 10's. he flipped his chair and yelled "you called 3 dollars with 5-2?!?!?!"

ah, fives full of two's full house, almos tsounds like an oxi moron

That kind of play can be quuuuite frustrating so I hear where he is/was coming from...

Guys who get THAT lucky when I had a better hand (until 5th street) drive me crazy sometimes. Especially cuz they think they won on skill and try to brag for the rest of the night.

DON'T get me wrong, there is nothing really wrong with staying in for the flop (even if it is expensive)... but when they make 2 pairs or something silly with the last card to beat my pocket Aces it's just

oh i've had that happen to me too, cause at this level, it's half fun half for the money, so people just make stupid calls for the hell of it. later on, in college and such, it gets a lot more serious. ive had someone call my 26 dollar raise with queen jack and i had ace jack (with a jack on the board) and he caught a queen the next card. shit like that, it devadstates you for days .

Ok it may not devastate but it really ruins your mood for sure!!

Dumb luck is at the whim of the shuffle...

Edit: mood and your play too... I predicted one guy was gonna play 'on tilt' after losing to a dumb luck hand (the last time we played)... and even with me saying that he started betting stooopit for a while until he cooled down!!

That's actually the real problem...it's tough playing against guys who see a quarter/dollar game as pocket change and will stay in everytime...leaves you sometimes with very little in the way of skill and usually you end up playing only the cards...not the man.

    Good call!!
We play nickel, dime, quarter and if one guy is there he always makes the flop about $.20 (instead of a check or a nickel). That makes you play the player more (in our crowd). I try to stay a little unreadable (sometimes loose other times not so much).
