At what point do you justify a rent cost when subtracting other costs like a metro card, taxi, etc BC of how convenient something is. It looks like the rent will be about 30% of my monthly income. I have high debt from my college loans but even accounting for that, it seems like I can still be comfortable in my wallet at this place. I'm just getting used to rent in this city and I just don't know if I'm getting what I pay for

Murry Hill is pretty brotastic at night. Maybe you're a bro though.

Second what DIDO said. Better to be close to friends than work, though depending where you are it might be fine. Like I lived in the LES for 5 years, for the last 2 I worked literally 3 blocks away. I had 1 really good friend relatively close by, everyone else was either a little more uptown or in BK but people came to the LES to hang all the time, so it wasn't a big deal. But if your choice is to live 30+ blocks from all your friends or 30+ blocks from work, I'd choose the latter.
Also, if anyone needs plans tonight, a band I work with is playing Mercury Lounge at 8pm.
EDIT: Oh, and to the above post, I was paying 40% of my pay in rent for a while (kinda dumb financially but worthwhile socially haha). Now I'm only paying around 25% but that's because I'm living with my gf and her hospital partially subsidizes our housing. Clutch.
