Re: Goucho

I just wanted to say that Boyd's lick at 0:59-1:05 is wonderful. That's the little stuff I greatly appreciate from Boyd or whoever came up with putting that in there. Thank you. Thank you. And one more Thank You.

Same here. The chorus, even without the kids, is atrocious.

don't like the "you gotta do much more than believe, if you really wanna change things" chorus. thought the song would get real old real quick.

i was wrong. i still never find myself skipping over this when it comes on. musically just a great tune. lyrics are strong too, other than that chorus. ashame to think what this could have been without condescending-Dave on the chorus hook. :-(

Completely agree. It's only an average chorus away from being spectacular. Unfortunately the chorus is just a huge turd. Worst chorus on the record. I've really soured on this tune, I wasn't as bad when it came out, but it's gotten worse over time for me. But again, that and If Only are truly the only songs I don't like on the record, so that's a big win in my book.

Currently the most underrated song on the album. People need to learn how to look past the believe line.

It would be easier to do that if it wasn't in the chorus and repeated 20 times throughout the song.

Tough to look past a shitty chorus in any song within pop music.

First time I heard the guitar riff and first verse for Gaucho it was most excited I had been about a song since Busted Stuff. I like the song musically, but I think its my least favorite song on the album because I cant get over the sense of wasted potential I got when the chorus kicked in.

This song is under rated due to its bad lyrics. I love Jeff's solos with carter coming out firing for the outro. Really amazing placement of Rashawns trumpet coming in on the right side with those two lines with Jeff in the left. Powerful moment during the song

see i think jeff and tim are pretty bad, and i don't like the transition from verse to chorus. you can tell it was not written with any care whatsoever.

first 1 and a half minutes, i think are great. then it just goes to hell, the entire rest of the song sounds like a bunch of random noise.

I think it's a really, really good song...but the children's chorus at the end just destroys it for me. I listened to it live and it sounds so much better.

Really, I think this whole album is much better live.

Really? Does repeating a chorus (A mantra, really) ruin a perfectly good song? It's not like they do this with every song, so when it's done in Gaucho i think it is extremely effective.

Honestly I think it's one of the most underrated songs this band has ever done.

No, it's just that I don't like the children's chorus being in it. Leaves a sour taste in the mouth.

I'm with you in that the children's chorus fits in with the song's meaning.. it really give you an aural representation of the optimism of the future. Hokey, perhaps.... but Dave's a hokey guy. It works.

The chorus of this song minus children, ruins it for me. I think it's one of the worst choruses Dave Matthews has ever written. So boring melodically within a very musically interesting song.
