Someone posted a link. Just put your email in and you can download it.

This song is awesome. I was expecting the lyrics on the album to be very political and very "we can save the US/world", so these lyrics are no surprise. The "Please wake up" part is really fuckin cool. I'm even liking the kids singing because the music is so good. I can't wait for the album!!

Listened to the song about 10 times when we got the email. Took an hour to listen to techno then came back to the song. It's sitting a lot easier after some space. I'm liking it more and more.

After 2 listens I haven't decided what I think of it yet. I like it for sure, how much I like it is TBD...I think this is a good start though, looking forward to hearing more.

    Sounds good to me.

Take the time to listen on decent speakers and it sounds much better. It will sound flat on laptop, but especially the last half of the song sounds great with a little tweaking on decent speakers.

Of course it still sounds a bit compressed.

Not going to be a single imo. Think it's going to be a winner live more than in studio, maybe needing a few performances to groove. I'm really pumped if this is an indication (why wouldn't it be) of the albums direction back toward TLS style of writing rather than the You and me , FTWII pop stuff.

Does the Beginning sound a little Stone-esque to anyone? Other than that this song has ended any pessimism I had for this album. For the past 2 months I've been preaching about how an artist should always be evolving as time goes on, and I thought after the lillywhite Sessions (Busted Stuff) the band just stop evolving and put out a lot just ok stuff. I believe this song is a sign that they started to evolve again. This song is what I would expect if the Lillywhite sessions were released and two years later the band made another album with lillywhite without all the drama. It is really good and I think people will start to like it as time goes on, just like Before These Crowded Streets.

Interested in hearing the meaning behind the title. Gaucho is a Portuguese word used to describe Brazilians of German ancestry who immigrated to southern brazil.

I lived in Brazil for a couple years, so I was pretty surprised and intrigued when I heard the title. Anyone know of a different meaning of the word?

In Portuguese it's pronounced GOW - oo - SHOW

I just typed out the lyrics for those interested:

With fire to keep us warm
and tools were made from rocks and bones
    a roof over your head
and walls to keep you safe in bed

There must be more than this
So god was born and we in his
    image of fear and love
look down upon from up above

ya got to do much more than believe
if we really want to change things
ya got to do much more than believe
if you really want to change things

    We crossed the oceans wide
built cities to the sky (oh lord)
looked up and we were flying
but will we not survive ourselves

we got to do much more than believe
if we really want to change things
gotta to do much more than believe
if you really want to change things

What will I say to my baby
let me show you a movie
you know we laneded a man on the moon
know you could never believe it
    yea we could do anything
we flew to the stars and back
    down to the ground

    please wake up
    please wake up
    please wake up

I went out to dinner with family knew nothing about this. Don't like the way the drums are recorded. Dave's voice sounds better to me than it has in a while in studio to me. I'm glad the song has a latin feel as the title suggest. Dave's voice really sounds great on it to me.

I love this song. You can really get a taste of lilywhite when you listen to this and I love how it utilizes each band member. No overpowering guitar and a catchy ass song!! Cant wait to see them this year!!

    Re: Goucho

I really like the way this song starts out, the guitar, the violin, the horns and the bass. Glad they still aren't playing it safe with the sound and musicial influences, especially on the first release. Typical non standard radio fare by DMB, like the old days. I wish the vibe during the first 1:30 or so of the song was a little longer. I still can't get over how GREAT DAVE'S VOICE SOUNDS on this. Since Stand Up his voice hasn't sounded that great to me on studio tracks.
