i'm digging the fact that this is the tune they picked the album title from. makes me a lil more excited to hear the studio version

I'm going to sit this one out. I'm at the point in my fandom where the prospect of listening to the entire album new excites me way more than hearing a brand new song live the night its performed. I listened to Gaucho, Mercy, and Sweet, but as it is becoming apparent we are going to know most of the songs prior to hearing the studio version, I think I'm just going to wait.

Easily the best of the new tunes for me.

    Such a dynamic song.

Love it! But one side of me wants them to stop debuting new songs to make the album a surprise, and the other side loves hearing new songs!

Wow! I was going to wait until the album came out to listen to anything besides If Only, Mercy, Sweet, and Gaucho, but I have zero will power. Fantastic tune. I think this could be an awesome single. I totally hear why they called this "The Riff." The main guitar riff is what drives the song. Best song they've written since Lillywhite Sessions/Busted Stuff....EASILY!

Robert Plant's use of the word fits better with his style and the band's sound. I'm not going to completely rip into Dave because I can't hear exactly what's going on with the lyrics, but it's just something that bothers me. Why are you so defensive? You must not take criticism well.

There's something I really like about this song that I can't pin point or describe very well. Partly the way Dave's melody rumbles out of the riff, in a steady, strong, building way.

Agreed, can't hear the song well enough to make a judgment. Once the tapes drop, I'll dive in fully.

I still don't like Sweet, but all of the other songs are dope. This song is an instant favorite after a couple of listens to a so-so recording.

No defense, starting disscussion and just pointing out another band with a diverse sound where the word baby is used a lot.

I remember somebody who heard the whole album make the comment along the lines of "this album seemed somewhat personal.....a more mature set of lyrics"

This song solidifies this. I'm not somebody who instantly loves new songs, but this one has absolutely swept me off my feet. Love at first sight. A song with meaningful, relatable lyrics with good music behind it?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1wg-2zCPu8 - new clip

you really get a feeling for what fonze said regarding personal lyrics, this album has much more meaningful messages and lyrics than anything we've seen in a long time, besides like squirm..at this point i don' think the album can be spoiled by hearing all these songs lives, i think when we all sit down and listen from start to finish the album will bring us a whole new experience

"I don't know the man that's living in my head if i don't know the woman that's sleeping in my bed"
"i've got dreams to kill and people to forget"
"you stay with me but that don't mean we have have to stay the same, you stay with me but baby maybe we can change the game, you stay with me but that don't mean I wan to stay the same"
yeh thats some deep sh*t, full of angst, emotions, stress, anger... that's good stuff it ain't your cheesy love song ala shake me and seven which are not what they could be due to lyrical turd writing

first gaucho and now this, dave's riff writing is back...this song is so dynamic with weird timing etc...it really highlights and takes advantage of the talent of the band which is the #1 thing i was hoping for, not necessarily a return to the 90's but a return to dmb proving they are top notch musicians that write interesting music
