Chorus is really good, the rest is meh. This may end up being an album that sounds way better in the studio versions than live.

I know. That's one of the things I love about DMB! I am trying not to judge stuff to early.

First song that I have really liked on first listen, but tell me, how much better would this song be if you replace the Tim solo with a Boyd or Jeff solo (violin/flute)?

How did none of them suggest that?????

i'm more of a fan of the whole band jamming together...why have 4 guys playing when 7 could? maybe we'll get some of that on the album, the riff is so strong that i think a guitar solo is fitting, versus gaucho and mercy where i think horn/alternate jams are quite fitting

Great song.. I dig it from the first listen.

I agree, as always - where is m'f'in boyd tinsley on the violin. That guy is just left out again.
Where you ever at a DMB concert? Yes? What do people dig the most? Yes - Boyd parts.

More than most, you really are hopeless.

And I always find it funny how most people post their positive comments once, while a very few negative people post, re-post, and re-post again the same bullshit in as many threads a possible, looking for someone to listen to them.

We don't care that you dislike everything. Good night.

    Re: The Riff

Just transcribed the lyrics... I might have a word off here or there, but this is pretty accurate:

    (The Riff)

You stay with me and maybe you and me we’ll change the game
    You did?

And I don’t know the man that’s living in my head
Til you reach down and bring the life back in
No I don’t know the man that’s living in my head
If I don’t know the woman sleeping in my bed

Remember how we used to kiss baby
    Kiss like it was everything
Remember how we used to love baby
    Love like it was everything

    (ooohhh)

You stay with me and I don’t think we got to stay the same
You stay with me and baby you and me we’ll change the game
You stay with me I’ll follow you and we can start again
    Maybe

I’ve got a minute or two to spare
And I’ve got a whole fucking life to fit in there
So why waste time staring at a TV set
Like I got dreams to kill and people to forget

Remember how we used to dance baby that meant everything

You stay with me and that don’t mean we got to stay the same
You stay with me and baby you and me we’ll change the game
You stay with me but that don’t mean I wanna stay the same

    (ooohhh)

You stay with me and baby you and me we’ll change the game

    I used this video...
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=GxcyGNNQUQ0

A few parts I wasn't sure, I came up with...

Look for me and time that slips away
Looking at the cracks cutting the grass ?
I remember the little kid living in here
    ???????
Please don't leave me baby please don't leave me now
Sitting on the porch away from the noise up there
The world piled high with boxes just like ?
Please don't ever leave me alone here
Take me out, shake off the dust, shake up the fear
Please don't leave me baby, please don't leave me here
If you stay with me that don't mean you gotta stay the same
If you stay with me baby you & me will change the game
And I don't know the man that's living in my head
Til you reach down and bring the light within
No I don't know the man that's living in my head
If I don't know the woman sleeping in my bed
Remember how we used to kiss baby
We kissed like it was everything
Remember how we used to love baby
We loved like it was everyday
If you stay with me that don't mean you gotta stay the same
If you stay with me baby you & me will change the game
If you stay with me I'll follow you and we can start again
I only got a minute or 2 to spare
And I got a whole fucking life to figure the way ?
Spend all this time staring at the tv set
Like I got dreams to kill and people to forget
Remember how we used to laugh
Take me there like it was everyday ?
If you stay with me that don't mean you gotta stay the same
If you stay with me baby you & me will change the game
If you stay with me that don't mean I want to stay the same
If you stay with me baby you & me will change the game

I love this song. It is by far the best of the AFTW songs we've heard so far. It builds, it has energy, it's got great lyrics, the whole band is involved and it's catchy as hell. What more could you want from a DMB song?

ED and BWGK are better studio than live and UTTAD and Crash (and most would argue BTCS, although I wouldn't) are equally as great studio as they are live. This idea that DMB is strictly a live band is a misconception. Their studio albums are brilliant (mostly.)

My favorite of the new ones thus far

The ending is so great, and from what I can gather there are some better lyrics in there (though yes, more overusing "baby").

"Sitting in a box away from the world out there..."

    Re: The Riff

I love how you can really see how much the composition and arrangement process has shifted over the past decade...it's so evident that they put a whole lot of work into both of these aspects - even moreso than Big Whiskey, which is pretty remarkable as there were some very dynamic arrangements in BW.

In some cases, there seem to be not just sections but almost movements, The Riff being the best example so far. But really: Gaucho, Mercy, If Only, and now The Riff...there's substance, not just filler solos and tacked-on solo sections.

    Gah.
