Bullshit. The Riff, Mercy, If Only, and Gaucho all have strong lyrics. Not every song is a throwaway lyric.

Just listened to the tape. Honestly, if you are looking for new "old school DMB" then you have just found it. Good stuff

I think this song is a good mix of old and new DMB. It sounds like Granny/Shake me like a monkey/ cornbread. Away from the world is definetly going to get the big 4 nod and we haven't heard the last 5 tracks yet! Love it.

Yeah, thanks Othello. I wasn't. But it's just strange how the only 2 songs I can think of that use the word Belly are both on the same album. It's not like a Belly is an interesting theme. The word itself is gross too. Belly. Fuck that.

    Re: Belly Belly

The lyrics in the first verse are actually pretty good. All in all, they are about as good as they should be when compared to similar songs (Rapunzel, WWYS, Shake Me, Too Much).

I think it's a good tune. This is the way I see parts of AFTW right now, compared to BWGGK

    1) Gaucho is this album's Squirm. Both are very good, Squirm is probably better, but Squirm was probably the best of BW. That's not the case for this album.

    2) If Only is this album's Spaceman, only much catchier and a better tune.

    3) BBN is this album's Shake Me, but better (Shake Me still stinks live)

    4) The Riff is awesome. Only issue is that it's more of a straight-up rock song

    5) Mercy is great, both studio and live, though live it desperately needs a solo during the outro (Rashawn, Boyd, or both)

    6) Sweet is okay. More of a Dave solo song that I wish was saved for that kind of record and never made full band.

Excited for how Lillywhite pieces it all together. Gaucho and Mercy are already very good studio tracks.

It does seem to be a word that Dave favors, though. Seek Up and SMLAM use it in their lyrics.

The Belly Belly Nice > Belly Full connection might be something were missing since we havent heard the second song. Hopefully its not just a coincidence...

Nice Breakdown. I would add that The Riff is kind of like this albums Time Bomb, but much more lyrically and musically coherent (it also doesn't try to emulate AATW, which Time Bomb does, miserably)

I'm reserving final judgement on Sweet until I hear the album version, though.

Stop comparing albums. Every album is different. Thats the point of making a new album, to create something new and different. To evolve. just sit back relax and go with the flow.

I don't mean to compare, I'm just getting that sort of vibe from those few songs.

You can't deny that this song will serve a similar function on this album as the one Shake Me served on Big Whiskey. It's the funky, fun, upbeat tune that you can groove to. This one, however, happens to sound good live.

Off of the first listen, I don't know what the deal that people are having with this song... It is by far the most similar to a portion of their old style - WWYS, Too Much'ish. My favorite song of DMB is Dreaming Tree - not every song needs to be a breath of depth and abstract ideas. This is funky and nice. I like it. Probably my favorite tune so far.

this just came to me last night in between dreams, that perhaps, maybe, kind of sort of, just saying, that their new stuff isnt what some of you enjoy as for maybe the writing in a pressure setting, such as making a new album, with a producer and blah blah, much like a 3 ft putt to go from former greens keeper to masters champion, and they hold back a tad. their not staying down after impact... again, just saying.. i for one love all their releases, however songs that havent ever made an album seem to be favorites among the people not liking their new stuff and saying bad lyrics and what not....crazy easy, shotgun, a dream so real and many others would be awesome on a new release, only if we never have heard them before. to late to put them on a new album now..... but those songs are like playing the first game of the season. no pressure. we like it, so lets play it..... ya know what i mean? maybe? kind of sort of? just sayin......

    Lyrics:

    It’s called Belly Belly nice…

    Think about what you want,
    Think about what you got…
And all the things that’ll heal, or hurt you.

‘Cause when I get bombs for the peaches
don’t matter what the preacher preaches.
The days are warm, the well is full of virtue.

Yeah, jack and jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water
Jack fell down and broke his crown,
‘cause he was messin’ with the preacher’s daughter

    Open up your wings,
    make a dead man sing
Such a good, good thing just can’t be wrong

You can’t get too much love,
Oh, don’t you feel it in your belly—go get you some!
You can’t get too much love,
Oh, the time is right for lovin’, so come one…come on.

Can you feel it in your belly, come on…

    Momma’s in the kitchen,
    Daddy’s in the field.
Baby girl has gone to town,
She like the way it make her feel.

    Swimmin’ in the river,
    Rollin’ in the mud.
When the [root is kickin’ off your shin]?
    One taste is not enough…

You can’t get too much love,
Oh, if you feel it in your belly—go ‘again, come on!
You can’t get too much love,
Oh, the time is right for lovin’, come and get you some.
You can’t get too much love,
So, give it up, give it up, give it up, give it up!

Oh the light that shines upon
The gift that everyone has for the taking, and
Happiness, oh yeah happiness is surely worth the making, YEAH!

    (sax solo)

Yeah, jack and jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water
Jack fell down and broke his crown,
‘cause he was messin’ with the preacher’s daughter

    (Violin Solo)

    [love, love, love, love…]Repeat

You can’t get too much love,
Oh, if you feel it in your belly—go get you some!
You can’t get too much love,
Oh, the time is right for lovin’, so come on…come on.

You can’t get too much love,
Oh it eats your belly jelly ‘till the kingdom come
You can’t get too much love,
Oh, give it up, give it up, give it up, give it up!

just listened to the pull. so good, much better than the youtube vids. really like this song. its better than shake me (im a shake me fan too) and it is a really overall good tune, and it already sounds really tight live. has some jam potential too. funky. the lyrics work really well. and its a lock for the 2nd single no doubt.

The lyrics are actually decent, better than I'd expect from a song like this.

I'm also getting mighty sick of all these Debby Downers. While this album won't touch the big 3, I am really liking how it's shaping up. I really like both studio tracks, The Riff is awesome, If Only is catchy as hell, and Belly Belly Nice is really fun and quite solid instrumentally.

Lillywhite will make sure the album sounds great from start to finish.

You complainers need to either leave Ants or stop posting. I know this has been said a million times, but it's true. Unless it's a constructive critique, you need to stop.

    Re: Belly Belly

This song is SO SO SO good. I can't believe I had to sell my ticket and miss the debut Saturday because I came down with strep throat.

Pretty much how I would state it! I'm at the point where I just laugh at all the ridiculous bitching on this site.
