Re: Rooftop

I don't want this taken the wrong way, but I think that the bridge of rooftop kinda sounds like the instrumental part of You & Me (which I really like) segued into the bridge of Sleep to Dream Her. It's also a lot of Fool to Think, and a little DIDO.

That said, I really like it hahaha

It's no Snow Outside, but it's damn good! Bridge is very cool, but so is the opening riff. Timmy's riff sounds like Van Halen or some type of early '90s song.

Best DMB song I've heard in a while. Better than anything off Big Whiskey. I actually don't even care about the lyrics, it SOUNDS like a DMB song. Can't wait to hear the rest of the AFTW.

I'd still say Squirm and LITHOG are better. Still like it, but I much prefer Drunken Soldier, Broken Things, The Riff, and Snow Outside.

Didn't like this one a lot at first, now I love it. It is SO rocking and happy. Totally different from the rest of the album, but it really gives the album a lift. Can't wait to hear how this evolves live.

its a damn good bridge...makes the song somewhat worthwhile

Seriously listen to the first 5 seconds of #34 then immediately play rooftop. There's definitely influence there. I posted the two for my non dmb fan coworker, and he thought they were very similar. Sorry to keep harping on that, but I think it's why I like it so much.

Really?? Those are very good songs, but damn....Rooftop just has that true DMB sound to it, which makes it so unique. Can't wait to hear Broken Things and Drunken Soilder.

I'm having the most trouble with this song (with If Only a close second). I don't hate it but it just doesn't grab me like the other songs. Like someone else said I definitely prefer Lying in the Hands of God and Squirm to Rooftop. I might completely change my mind in the next few days though.

i think anybody who is still unsure about this song will "get it" once its played/they hear it live. the chorus on this is going to be huge live, and the outro with the choruses and rashawn could really turn into a big ending.

You said it, I felt it.

Rooftop is the only song on the album I'm having a hard time with. The chorus is not appealing to me at all.

IT IS EVERYDAY ALBUM MEETS SEVEN FROM BWGGK.

The best thing it has going for it is that Snow puts it behind you on the next track.

I actually disagree completely. This was the song that least resembles classic DMB to me (discounting the guitar riff). I actually think of Aerosmith and Zeppling when I hear the chorus.

Also, 5 people in this thread have claimed that Rooftop is their favorite song on the album. None have over 1,000 posts. There are also a lot of frequenters stating their displeasure. It's middle of the pack for me. Is this a song for newer fans?

I've been a fan since 2005... I LOOOOOOOVE Rooftop. One of my favorites from this album. My top 4 songs on the new album are currently as follows: The Riff, Drunken Soldier, Rooftop, Belly Belly Nice. My favorite DMB song of all time is Dreaming Tree with Spoon a VERY close second. BTCS is my favorite album, AFTW is my 2nd favorite album. I am a fan of Can't Stop, and I like Angel as well. Louisiana Bayou is the song that got me into the band in the 1st place. You be the judge haha

I became a fan after you! Just pointing out an observation with a very small sample size. It's #6 or me behind Boyd Broke Tin Things, Riff, Drunk, Snow, and Gooch

I've been a fan since my mom bought me Live at Luther in '97, and it's probably top 3 for me. That last three songs are my favorites, with Snow Outside almost head and shoulders above everything.

I'm still very meh on the chorus, and the verse riff is nice but nothing special, but I LOVE this part (the bridge?):

i am one of those 'newer' fans and part of the reason i love rooftop is cuz rashawns solo is awesome and im a trumpet player. While i am a 'newer' fan i am still crazy about the big three and pretty much every album.

I like this song becuase it rocks really hard and hearing dave talk about how he loves acdc and shit and that they prepared a led zepplin song makes it awesome that they created a sweet ass old school rock song with a kickass bridge and a fool to think type verse, which is a great song imo (not having anything to do with the fact that im a 'newer' fan)

i do wish i couldve been a fan in the 90's but i also think that people disliking the newer things and wanting everything to sound like the big three need to accept what the band wants to create now. not saying that any of you guys are like that but ive wanted to mention that somewhere haha and i listened again and i think snow outside is alot better, reminds me of loving wings cuz it builds up to insane awesomeness. its too hard to pick a damn favorite. but i havent listened to drunken soldier yet so we will see haha
