oh it was Will Bailey, played by Josh Malina. which, you are well into the stretch of the show showing his whole arc, so I mean it's not even a matter of spoiling, it should be pretty clear now.
Again, I doubt I'm necessarily part a big club with this, but I just really loved the Will Bailey character a lot when he was first brought on. I know some might have instinctively reacted iffy toward him just because they loved Sam Seaborn so much, which don't get me wrong I liked Sam as well. Although Rob Lowe was the member of the cast by far who was not playing as well into the whole ensemble thing they had going on from the start. It's cooled over the years, but at the time he was not the most popular guy on set (well and I'm sure you noticed he was the one non-President character not being alphabetically listed in the credits).

but yea just how quickly he, as I've always put it, sells his soul to Bingo Bob, just for the promise if being a bigger part of the machine (but to a MUCH inferior man), it always felt so tragic.

This is pretty much me too.

The only FX show that I didn't even bother to watch an episode of was Bastard Executioner. SOA lost me big time at the end and the thought of that sort of shit in a new series just exhausted me.

FX shows I tried but didn't stick with very long are American Horror Story, the Bridge, The Strain, and Tyrant.

yea I never liked Will for a lot of reason...replacing a main character so late into a show is difficult for viewers. I also can't stand Malina's voice/delivery, it's always bothered me. Going all in for Bob, I get the career move but its def out of character for him. Just started S7, In hate that it's almost over

Not sure how I'm feeling about this season of House of Cards. It was good early on. now it just seems to be meandering a bit (im on episode 9). Part of me feels like they are telling the same story over and over again, just changing it up a little bit.

Curious to see how they wrap this up to make it interesting.

as I think I've said before, Malina and Sorkin have been friends for many years, there was a stretch where he was included in every single thing that Sorkin wrote, even if just a small role (including he was part of the cast in the original major Broadway run of A Few Good Men, which btw I would fucking love to get to see that in its play form). He was a major cast member in Sports Night, and of course couldn't go over to join West Wing initially because SN was still happening in WW's first season. But he'd watched it from the start and when it was becoming more clear that Rob Lowe going to be leaving, Malina actively lobbied to get a role on the show. It's just crushing because it seemed like relatively quickly he went from being this bright light of incredible idealism (even by WW standards) to blam! -- pretty straight up pragmatism.

damn I can't wait to get to cover some s7 trivia for you!

yeah i wish I watched it initially so I could discuss each ep the way we do with other shows. They did kind of try to sell Will's leaving as he saw real idealism and a shrewd politician in Bob, but they didnt sell it all that well

I was wondering what happened around the middle of the 5th season, I noticed the dialogue change. didnt realize Sorkin left. The show has def become just above average after the 4th season. S5 was pretty lame. Love how they brought peace to the middle east and solved SS in 2 single episodes

The History Channel's 'America's War on Drugs' has been very good. It's nice to see them put out something actually related to history for the first time in I don't know how long.

I'm also looking forward to 'American Ripper', which starts 7/11:
    Quote:
Herman Mudgett, alias H.H. Holmes, was America’s first serial killer. No one knows for sure how many lives he took, but it’s believed he was responsible for killing as many as 200 people in the late 19th century. A con man, opportunist and evil genius, the crowning achievement of his dark deeds was the construction of a building later dubbed the Murder Castle: a hotel on Chicago’s south side that he engineered to be a factory of death, complete with a gas chamber, dissection room, trap doors and a basement furnace to destroy any trace of his sinister work. At the same time across the Atlantic, a killer was terrorizing the streets of London, murdering and mutilating at least five victims in the Whitechapel area of the city. To this day, the killer has never been caught or identified. He is known as Jack the Ripper. In American Ripper, Holmes’ great-great-grandson, Jeff Mudgett, sets out to prove a controversial theory: that H.H. Holmes and Britain’s most notorious serial killer, Jack The Ripper, were the same man. After twenty years searching for the truth about his notorious ancestor, Mudgett partners with ex-CIA analyst Amaryllis Fox to launch an all new investigation, using 21st century science and methodology to unlock the secrets of one of the biggest cold cases of all time.

I found this really cool app called TV Time. You can keep up with shows you've watched and show you are currently watching. It reminds you of when next episodes air. It also has a social aspect if you choose to go that route. I'm chadizzy1 on TVTime for anyone who gets that app. I think you can connect to people on there.

They have an app, or you can use it online. If you have the app, you get notification reminders when your shows come on.

    Anyone else use it?

I have a similar app called Next Episode. I don't really have any notifications enabled but it's a handy guide that adds episodes to my watch list as things air, and then I can swipe them as "watched' once I have finished that. I always basically used my DVR to serve that function (if it was on my DVR I had to watch it), but since cutting the cord and watching things from various services (Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Playstation Vue, etc.), I've needed one app to keep things centralized and it has done the trick for me.

Right, the apps only serve any sort of useful function for cord-cutters who have a number of subscriptions.

I was using Next Episode for the past few years, and found this one and like it more so I switched.

2 episodes of West Wing left. I can't imagine much happening at this point, the last 2 or 3 episodes have been kind of slow, but that's what I expected with them focusing on the transition.

Gotta say, absolutely loved this show. it def slowed down in the 5th (?) season, I think because I watched it so fast, but the bad episodes and storylines are still better than most of what is/was on TV...at its best, the show rivals anything I've ever watched, and def breaks into my top 5 (im not sure Ive ever done a ranking, but I would figure this has to be in it)

    Top 5, no order:

    Sopranos
    Shield
    WW
    BrBa
    GoT

    Tier 2:

    Narcos
    Americans
    Stranger Things
    Fargo
    Wire

likely missing a few I would add in

Did anyone watch all of preacher season 1? It didn't hold my attention and I quit after 4-5 episodes, but I am seeing great reviews for season 2, wondering if I should give it all another shot.

didnt really like the way silicon ended, and especially how they are letting Erlich leave the show. Kinda feel like the show is really dying.

Hard for me to see more than a season or two more left in it. The cyclical nature of the writing used to not bother me as much but now its becoming far too taxing and predictable.

I thought I heard that they might be moving to Seattle for next season, which would be a welcome change. Plenty of hilarity they could rip on there.

The show also seems to have a significant % of less laughs overall than before.

Twin Peaks put on maybe the best and most confusing hour of television I've ever seen. "This is the water. And this is the well. Drink full and ascend. The horse is the white of the eyes and dark within.” That's the scariest thing I've ever heard.

About halfway done with the season. I've enjoyed it way more than I anticipated.

Preacher is fucking genious and a complete blast, completely over the top. I cannot recommend it enough. And yes, the first two episodes of season 2 are fantastic as well.
