GODZILLAc

King of the Monsters!

Expect an American reboot of the Godzilla series in 2012 from Legendary Pictures. Legendary has struck a deal with Toho Ltd. to use the Godzilla character in a reboot of the series.

I'm a big Godzilla junkie. Loved him as a kid and still am fascinated by the film series to this day. I have a picture next to his block in Hollywood. Next up is his monument, statue in Tokyo, Japan.

If Roland makes this reboot (again), I will be furious! They need someone who could do it justice. If they don't try for a young audience, I would love to see Tarantino do it.

He knows his Japanese cinema and would definitely make Godzilla badass and bloody.

And for people to discover Godzilla...Luckily crackle.com has put up a bunch of his more recent movies on their database. I talked with the creator of the site and he said the uploader was a big G fan. I think the older ones are where it's at, but these ones definitely are entertaining and have more of the flash/bang technology.

Thanks for the tip about crackle posting some Zilla flicks. Been a long time. A dude in a suit is the only acceptable way for the remake to be handled and he better be trashin some city streets.

and also, the original Godzilla movie (which I own, naturally) Gojra is actually a brilliant film; the monster is a metaphor for nukes. Quite smart. I need to watch that again STAT.

The nuke theme runs on throughout the series of films. As time goes on though, when Godzilla starts attacking the city again and not the bad guys, is when the director is trying to be critical of Japan's role in the nuclear arms race.

It's really quite interesting. Even though some of the films from the late 70's were cheesy and had crazy sound effects, they actually did have a meaning. Best transition to watch

Gojira (Godzilla) -> Godzilla 1985. Two of the Americanized Godzilla films that actually has some chronology to it. You also get a double dose of Raymond Burr, which is a FTW.

This thread = win. I was big into Godzilla films back in the day.

In the Americanized version of the original 1950's film, wasn't Raymond Burr just edited in somehow?

And how has this not been posted yet?

    WHAT?!?!

Godzilla is like the James Bond of Japan. Motherfucker has radiation shaken, not stirred. If anything it's his enemy that changes and is new. Fuck, in Godzilla: Final Wars the Japan version of Godzilla destroys the Americanized version of the G-Man.

This movie is looking promising. I guess Pacific Rim is a test (coming out soon) to see how the monster CGI will look in the Zilla movie.
