It is VERY dangerous. If you use the same password for the email you registered with, you're at HEAVY risk. Same thing if you use the username/password at other sites.

This is serious. It's been compromised for over a week and they have done nothing. Now, they've left us all exposed and I am PISSED because this is basic fucking sys-admin shit that should not happen.

Man that sucks, I feel bad for the people that run that site. All the work they do to maintain it and so people go and do this its a shame.

Pretty sure they're one of the reasons of how this happened.

I don't blame the admin at the site one bit. Obviously they had no idea and it doesn't seem to be a problem with every user. Now they have a disclaimer atleast on the website until it's fixed. Hopefully there's no real damage done here and the site and downloads go on per usual. I've used it a couple times this week after posting and just x out the pop up immediately after clicking the link. It's just the first click and then it goes away after that.

Seriously this guy has been posting the world is ending type shit about dreamingtree and its admin for the past 12hrs on Facebook here these days prob Reddit even.

Email/ip was what they had access to. Big fucking deal. Change your password to be safe (but they were hashed - not plain text).

DT has been an amazing resource for fans for 10 years or so. We should be saying thanks instead of fuck you for leaking my email and ip (God this guy totally blew this out of proportion)

Change your password, avoid spam emails, and hope ths site comes back. If you don't trust those guys know what they're doing if and when the site is restored don't go back.

    /end.

    Admin took it down.

Whether or not she comes back is another story.

If the admins do read this and it is in fact the end of a great run I for one thank you for all the free music.

Yes, dreamingtree has been a great place for tapers to share music and it's been a fantastic source for those of us who like to listen to live music. I had no idea that Brian (the site owner) stopped listening to DMB a few years ago but still kept the site up and running.

Hopefully they get it secured and back online. I know that a lot of the torrents end up on this site as well but it seemed to me that dreamingtree was the first place they generally landed. As for changing passwords, as Mr. Peters said, it is foolish to use the same user ID or email and password at every site you visit, especially sites where you might have sensitive personal/financial information on record. A good reminder that if you're going to conduct your life online, you need to be careful about it.

that's what hackers do... they go down the list of sites by popularity. We got hacked a few years ago, but you never knew it (until now) b/c we stopped it very early.

and no, they didn't get into our user database; we stopped em before that

Just an update for people that didn't see it a few minutes ago:

The hacker created an Ants account today and posted what he claimed was the dreamingtree database. The post was deleted and the used was banned. He's still trying to expose people's information.

The fear mongering should stop though.......

Sucks we probably lost a cornerstone of the community not that some Romanian teenager has our email and ip addresses.

Hopefully, nobodys money is getting stolen. I wonder if this is just some computer geek doing things like this for fun. Idk why someone would do something like this for fun.

I hate that it happened to such an important part of the dmb community. Hopefully the site will be able to recover from this but I doubt it.
