Give Hop Hash a try. It's the new DIPA. Their catch and release seasonals are decent. Georgia Brown is good and I really enjoy Sweetwater Blue in the summer.

Looks like the closest one is 2 hours south in Phoenix. Hopefully I can grab some when I'm down there in a few weeks.

    Re: Favorite beer of choice?

I just spent a few days in New Orleans. It was by far the worst city I've been to when it comes to beer. Abita was everywhere, and everything I've had from them before the trip was ok at best. The new beers I tried from them on the trip were more of the same. They had a grapefruit IPA that really made me realize how good Grapefruit Sculpin is. The Abita version just tasted like malted grapefruit. Sweetwater 420 and IPA was pretty common as well. I've had both before, and this trip just reaffirmed that they're nothing more than average beers.

I did have a couple of real solid local porters, but by far the best beer I had was a IPA that NOLA Brewing and Stone collaborated on, Bringer of Destruction. It had a highly unfiltered look that reminded me a lot of orange juice. The look carried over to both the smell and taste, which was essentially heavily hopped orange peel.

The attached picture from a bar that touted itsetlf as a craft beer bar pretty much sums up the New Orleans beer scene.

Same here... my shop gets it on a pretty regular basis too, but every time that they post about getting some it's gone. Fucking truck chasers are the worst.

I have a feeling those of you with BP distro will all be seeing Grapefruit Sculpin soon.

Here in SoCal it was really hard to get for a while; had to follow places on social media in hopes of getting a bottle or two, etc.

Now there are literally cases and cases of it everywhere. They have ramped up production drastically so it will be all over the place soon. This beer has turned into a cash cow for BP.

The cans are approved now as well which is more good news, haven't seen them hit the shelves just yet though.

Anyone else have the Lagunitas mason jar? I've had a couple for a year or so now... just noticed the measurements on the side are:

    3.14... (Pi)
10/6 - (this one I had to look up - it was the on the Mad Hatter's hat... something to do with the price)
420 - (pretty sure we all know what this is )

I'm just using it for a water glass today... it's not really a great beer glass given it's lack of shape. I can't believe I haven't noticed the measurements before though.

I use one almost daily. I dropped it once, in a parking lot, and it bounced. I knew that was exactly the kind of beer glass I needed.

I've noted your Sweetwater recommendations, as they just started distributing to Maryland this past week. They are doing a tap takeover at my local bottle shop tonight, so I will be sure to try samples of the brews you mentioned and hopefully get a few growlers filled if any of them strike my fancy.

How much special release type stuff from Sweetwater? Anything to look out for seasonally? I do know that they are going to distribute only their core lineup to MD for the first few months, but I am told we will get some of their limited stuff after awhile. Again, as I mentioned before, I have never been blown away by them, but have not tried Hop Hash or the Georgia Brown....so I will report back.

    no, it's not

Jai Alai can't touch Lone Pint Yellow Rose.

and the best DIPA in the south is Parish Ghost in the Machine.

I had a sixer of Hopslam arrive at my door yesterday, I'm looking forward to finally trying it.

Anyone seen this yet or has anyone gotten one? Basically, hydro flask has a new pint glass out that is double vacuum wall insulated to keep beer cold longer. I love their stainless steel growlers, but am wondering if the pint glass would be worth $22? Personally, my thoughts on glasses that keep beer colder longer have always been this:

The few beer styles that I tend to drink at colder temperatures (pale ales, ipa's, wheat ales, lagers) are the styles that I also tend to drink quickly so I really wouldn't need a glass that would keep them cold for an extended period of time. Conversely, styles that I tend to drink a bit warmer (50-55 degrees) are stouts, porters, barleywines, and most Belgian styles. It seems to me that a glass that would keep these beers colder longer would pretty much be counter productive, as I tend to enjoy letting those beers warm up even more over the course of 30-60 minutes to experience subtle flavor changes and complexities.

Kind of a weird topic to bring up, but just wanted to see what everyone's thoughts are. While on the topic, are you guys particular about serving temps for your beer? Glass styles? I find that the type of glassware used and the serving temp makes a huge difference in how much enjoyment I get out of a beer. Some may call this philosophy a bit "beer snobbish", but I always say that with as much money as I invest into craft beer, I want to get the most enjoyment possible out of each experience...

    Cheers,
    Scott

    Cheers,
    Scott
I drink most beers at somewhere between cellar and room temperature anyways, don't see much purpose to it.
