    Just to provide a numerical update, so far 11 lists have been submitted and 65 films have qualified. Compare that to years past:

    2012: 58 (15)
    2011: 77 (17)
    2010: 33 (30)
    2009: 49 (14)

    The discrepancy from 2010 is that the cap was set lower to encourage more participation. More lists were submitted, but fewer films qualified because of the smaller sample size.

    Obviously a lot more diversity this year considering so many films have already qualified despite only 11 lists having been submitted thus far. Considering some of the biggest contributors in the movie thread haven't sent me their lists yet, I'm anticipating a record breaking number of qualifying films and more participants than we've ever had (disregarding the 2010 outlier).

    And much like this year's actual Best Picture race, we also have the closest battle we've ever had for #1.

    Really wish I could have gotten to a few more films. Missed a lot of big ones, but I guess when you're poor, live in the middle of nowhere, and don't do torrents (or whatever shit some of yall do), it's pretty much impossible to get to everything Still, a little more than 60 films?     So the obvious downside to having a banner year in terms of the number of participants and qualifying films was the inordinate amount of time it took to tabulate the results. All told, 84 films qualified through 25 submissions.

    the thing about Lone Survivor I'd been meaning to mention in the movies thread... I mean I realize it's based on a true story and all, but I don't know, I just couldn't help thinking it would still be on the cliched and melodramatic side. I hope this doesn't sound like unpatriotic or anything, but the prevailing theme of the movie (far as I could tell, anyway), it's not like that's not something we haven't heard about the military a thousand times before. I was kind of surprised when I saw it did THAT well at the box office.

    but I also thought 12 Years A Slave was going to be overly saccharine and melodramatic, and I still haven't seen it, yet obviously so many people have it as their #1. It's cool to see About Time made the list, though honestly I was thinking it'd wind up way higher than that.

    Man, there are a few films already that I missed putting on my list. Amazing how quickly I forget what movies I've watched (more so that they were movies from 2014). Oh well.
