Not a very high hurdle to jump.

Looks pretty decent but will ultimately likely end up as predictable as all other Marvel movies. At least this looks like it has some weight and real conflict to it.

Just based on their powers doesn't this ultimately come down to Scarlet Witch vs. Vision? Everyone else seems pretty powerless compared to those two.

    Interesting.

Wasn't what I expected, at all. I knew they'd stray from the comic storyline some, because they came out and mentioned it, but it looks like they just used the Civil War comic storyline as just a base frame/concept more than anything. That didn't look much at all like the comic.

I don't think they'll be using the "minor" superheroes as much as people were anticipating. More like a cameo it appears.

Gonna spoiler the rest of my thoughts for those who've read the comics or don't care..

Trailer was ok, Ultron was such a let down, so I am not expecting much from this one. I hope I am wrong, really enjoyed the Winter Soldier.

The only hope I have for this and the rest of the MCU is that Whedon is no longer involved and that the Russo Bros. are taking the reigns over. Also I'm pretty sure I heard that Loeb and Feige are given almost ultimate control over the general direction of the MCU instead of having to answer to some brass or another at Disney or Marvel.

Interesting stuff in your spoiler. I believe it to be true since I've read some things a couple of years ago. What I read and what your spoilering match up.

Don't go off of Age of Ultron, that was Whedon doing Whedon stuff and 30 minutes of the movie got cut because of it.

This and Winter Solider are the Russo Brothers.

There is a reason why Marvel ditched Whedon and went with them for their biggest movie event, Infinity War.

We will see, as much as we solely lay blame on Whedon, what was Feige's part in all of that? He is still around, and is the constant in all of this, so he doesn't get a complete pass from me right now. Definitely felt that Russo brothers were the right option going forward, however with Feige still in ultimate control, we will see how this one turns out.

    That trailer was incredible.

"I'm sorry Tony. You know I wouldn't do this if I had any other choice. But he's my friend."

    "So was I."

    Goosebumps.

I don't know, I'm more ready to believe that Marvel kept Whedon from his A game because of their demands/conditions on the movie than Whedon kept Marvel from their A game.

    Hey all,

Similar to last year leading up to Ultron i'll be doing a weekly MCU movie watch every Sunday leading up to Civil War. Thought it helped build the hype and made for some good discussion leading up to it last year. The schedule is as follows.

    Iron Man- Feb 14th
    The Incredible Hulk- Feb 21st
    Iron Man 2- Feb 28th
    Thor- March 6th
    Captain America- March 13th
    Avengers- March 20th
    Iron Man 3- March 27th
    Thor 2- April 3rd
    Winter Soldier- April 10th
Guardians of the Galaxy- April 17th
    Age of Ultron- April 24th
    Ant Man- May 1st

I'll probably do Avengers 2 and Winter Soldier. Should cover the bases.

I did watch Ant-Man the other night for the first time since theaters. It wasn't near as bad as I remembered it - I'd say it was pretty enjoyable. I guess it helped not having people laugh at the cheesy jokes.

This may be the last full rewatch I do until Infinity War but I am really excited to see all of these movies again.

when looking at this great video that Collider had a full Q&A with the Russo Brothers recently heavily centered on Winter Soldier, Civil War and Infinity War

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-imIj_6uLQ4

and being reminded of the whole upcoming Phase 3 slate

Captain America: Civil War - May 6, 2016
    Doctor Strange – November 4, 2016
Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 – May 5, 2017
    Untitled Spider-Man Reboot – July 28, 2017
    Thor: Ragnarok – November 3, 2017
    Black Panther – February 26, 2018
    Avengers: Infinity War – Part I – May 4, 2018
    Ant-Man and the Wasp – July 6, 2018
    Captain Marvel – March 8, 2019
    Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2 – May 3, 2019
    Inhumans – July 12, 201
    9

I realized that at one point, we're going to have no less than 5 of the MCU movies in just under one calendar year. Look, going from the end of July, 7.28.17 start with the new Spiderman solo movie, 11.3.17 we've got Thor 3, 2.26.18 the solo Black Panther movie, 5.4.18 the first part of Infinity War, to the beginning of July, 7.6.18 the Ant-Man sequel.

5 movies in only almost exactly 50 weeks.

So many good characters that I'm looking forward to. Dr. Strange, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Inhumans.

It'll finally be good to get the Infinity Wars out of the way since they've been building up to that for a decade.

Saw the trailer when I saw TFA. Looking forward to this! The Captain America series is my favorite out of all of the Marvel movies.

How long do you think Downey Jr. will keep doing these?

well officially speaking, his current contract runs for 3 more movies. So that's Civil War, and both parts of Infinity War. And especially as IW is intended to be sort of a natural culmination of the entire overall Marvel story they've been building to since the very first Iron Man (even though there will still be a Phase 4, Phase 5, etc), I'd say it's a very good chance that'll be the end of his days as Tony Stark. Hell, story-wise he's already said he was kind of walking away in the end of both IM3 and Avengers 2. The character will surely still be a part of the MCU, just maybe recast/rebooted somehow (or handed off).

and as if this needed more hype... most initial test screenings of Civil War are saying it's even better than Winter Soldier, the best Marvel movie yet.

How long do you think Downey Jr. will keep doing these?
yeah I'm not as big into Marvel movies as a lot of people but the Cap films are def the best of the bunch

With the Marvel movies supposedly going on "forever", I could see Tony showing up in a cameo role 15 years down the line. If they're going to keep these going it would be cool to see things like that happen. So I hope they don't just kill characters off to get rid of them as they go.

Not to be a blatant contrarian but what else would the rumors be expected to say?

"Hey guys, this new movie we're putting out soon, yeah, it's just alright and pretty much the same as all the other ones."

That being said I will definitely be seeing this in theaters. If the Russo Bros can continue the momentum they had from Winter Soldier then it'll be a solid film.

well first of all I think it's definitely more than a 50/50 chance someone dies in this film. Not necessarily saying one of the primo Avengers, but someone enough for the audience to care (and funnily enough I do NOT think it will be Rhodey/War Machine, just cause there's no way they spoil that moment way back in the very first trailer, I think in that beat Rhodey was just significantly hurt). but also keeping in mind with the integrating of the Doctor Strange side of things into the MCU, time may not necessarily be a perfectly linear concept for much longer. If they're going to embrace as much of the powerfulness that comes from the Infinity Gauntlet as possible, things are about to get really strippy, again for example using time travel/manipulation somehow to creatively restart a character, and with another actor. But maybe even in such a way that they still could use RDJ a bit down the line in some surprising cameo.

I hear your basic point, but for what it's worth, what I was reading, it was material coming from the viewers of the screenings, not anything from the filmmakers. Which, yea I realize you can't 100% count on them to be all pure, hell I mean the couple of years when I worked for Paul Verhoeven, after one of the test screenings for Hollow Man was done I wrote a fake positive review for a website

but hey there's also been plenty of times that really bad reactions have leaked from test screenings of movies and so created shitty buzz.
