Re: Fargo (New FX TV series)

Mmm. Premiere was good. Took me a bit to adjust to seeing Bilbo with an American accent. It felt lovingly inspired by the original film rather than being a simple redux.

It was hard not to compare it to other Coen Bros. stuff — Billy Bob's character feels ominous and evil in the same way as Anton Chigurh.

Billy bob reminded me of some lost Daniel day Lewis character with spock's haircut.

Some people might prefer one or more of those movies over Fargo. There's no way that many people would say all four blow Fargo out of the water.

Also, not that it matters all that much, but per RT Fargo was the best reviewed film of the ones you mentioned.

Strongly disagree. Again, you might prefer them more, but they are not "easily" better.

He's pretty fucking scary, but the scene when he visited Sam's trucking company was hysterical.

That said, his interaction with Colin Hanks was straight up chilling.

Forrest Gump is my #1 all time. It has been on AMC a lot recently and just watched some of it the other night. Amazing soundtrack.

How was the show? I've seen the movie a few times and really like it but I'm not sure about diving into a series about a movie I've already seen.

Premiere was excellent last night, and the story is completely different. It's "Fargo" in style and location only.

^ And, even then, barely in location. It takes place in Bemidji, MN. But I know I heard a mention of Fargo.

The original took place in MN with the exception of the opening scene.

Interesting how someone else saying those films are better is somehow objectively false, but you saying they aren't is just the way it is for everyone in the world

Opinions are really tough to understand, huh?

However, I never actually said Fargo was better than any of those, so perhaps you didn't bother to read my posts before responding.

Nah zillbro it's your extremely douchey way of dismissing others opinions while presenting your own as more valuable that's off putting.

I didn't say you said fargo anything was better so take your own advice and read it again. I clearly said that anyone else's claim that those particular movies were better than Fargo was what you dismissed. And if you're going to say that it's because he used the term 'blows out of the water' or I said "easily" then, well, thats a pretty dumb thing to argue about.

Really enjoyed the first episode. Weird how it can be so dark yet pretty humorous at times like the movie.

    Actually, you did...

"Interesting how someone else saying those films are better is somehow objectively false..."

If I had said that it was "objectively false" that those films were better (which I did not), isn't that the same thing as saying Fargo is better than those films?

And if my opinions are too assertive for you...

I'm much more interested to see what happens with Billy Bob than with Bilbo at this point.

I feel like Bilbo's story is laid out to mirror Jerry Lundegaard's decline in the film.

Billy Bob plays a pretty good role. Cannot place my finger on his character...good intentions, bad intentions, motives. Just the whackiest of hitmen.

Episode 2 wasn't bad. Not nearly as eventful as the premiere episode. The scene where Billy Bob gets the mail reminded me a lot of Chigurh with the gas station clerk from No Country for Old Men.

I feel like it's a good show, but aside from Malvo, I just can't get interested in any of the characters. Maybe Adam Goldberg and his accomplice, but they don't exactly get loads of screen time.
